addedHello Everyone and Happy New Years!
changedThis update took a lot longer to work on than I expected, but most of that is because I realized it could be a lot more fun than I had initially planned. Previously I mentioned that I wanted to add new items for the next update, and originally that's just what I did until the unlock requirements became so unique I decided they should just have a dedicated run for each of them. This took more effort to implement than I had expected but I made it just in time for the end of the year!
addedChallengesThe main focus of this update is a new game type: Challenges!
addedChallengesEach challenge changes the game in a unique way, and completing a challenge unlocks a new item. I also did my best to make the unlockable items thematically related to the challenge. Each challenge also has a corresponding Steam Achievement! I should also mention that certain items are disabled for each challenge, and non-challenge related achievements are disabled when you're in a challenge run.
changedChallengesHere is a short gif of the "Gotta Go Fast" challenge (sorry I couldn't come up with a better name) where taking any damage drops all your money, and if you take damage with no money you lose!
changedChallengesHere is another fun challenge, your character is on fire the ENTIRE run and you have to race against your health to finish! This one is pretty difficult but I found it to be pretty fun!

Challenges

The main focus of this update is a new game type: Challenges!

Each challenge changes the game in a unique way, and completing a challenge unlocks a new item. I also did my best to make the unlockable items thematically related to the challenge. Each challenge also has a corresponding Steam Achievement! I should also mention that certain items are disabled for each challenge, and non-challenge related achievements are disabled when you're in a challenge run.

There are 10 challenges in total, so have fun and good luck!

Here is a short gif of the "Gotta Go Fast" challenge (sorry I couldn't come up with a better name) where taking any damage drops all your money, and if you take damage with no money you lose!

Here is another fun challenge, your character is on fire the ENTIRE run and you have to race against your health to finish! This one is pretty difficult but I found it to be pretty fun!

New Items

If those 10 challenge items aren't enough I've also added 26 other items to bring the total item count up to 148! Some of these are locked behind specific unlock rules while some are just unlocked by default. You'll also notice the art is... not great. That's because I've been the one creating them, and pixel art is not my strong suit! I may change some of these in future updates.

Overall I've added:

  • 17 new Unlocked items

  • 8 new Locked items

  • 10 new Challenge Items

  • 1 new Cursed item

I won't spoil too many items, you'll have to go and check the game out to see them all! I will put a few gifs of my favourite new items below:

Book of Necromancy

Summon friendly undead to fight for you!

Infestation

Summon a mini rat horde when you take damage!

Best Selling Novel

Gain a friendly book minion to help you out

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed being able to see coins through the secret room walls

  • Fixed bug where Potions found in treasure chests were not usable in inventory

  • Iron Skin is no longer sellable

  • Fixed scrolling in the Adventurer creation screen when using Steam deck or low resolution devices

  • Fixed bug where Adventurer would take damage on loading a save

  • Fixed bug where the Healing Mage would fail to find a target to heal

  • Fixed a bug where the game could crash when talking with the Adventurer

Other Changes

  • Added support for more resolutions, including NVidia Surround

  • Defaulted to Zoomed mode when playing on Steam deck (this can be reverted in the options)

  • Reduced time it takes for Coins to be able to be picked up

  • Increased damage dealt by Bookshelf traps from 6 to 10

  • Slightly optimized a few things

What's Next?

This update took a lot more work than I thought, I plan on having the next update be a lot simpler. I'll be trying to add the Encyclopedia I mentioned last time, hopefully that doesn't end up taking way longer than I expect!

Thanks everyone for reading and have fun with the new update!
