We're more than thrilled and proud to introduce a brand-new gameplay overview video of Pharaoh: A New Era. This video allows us to tackle several gameplay mechanics and introduce a few tricks to build and make your kingdom live on through the 4000 years of history narrated in-game.
Pharaoh: A New Era is the remake of the beloved and original 'Pharaoh' game released in 1999. This cult classic provided an unforgettable memory to generations of players and narrated 4,000 years of the history of Ancient Egypt through six different ages. To make sure that players who have never played the original Pharaoh game feel comfortable enough we gathered some basic but useful tips to get started.
We recommend to all beginners choose the campaign mode to get started by learning all mechanics step by step before jumping into the Free Build mode.
Step #1: read and understand the mission briefing and the win and defeat conditions
First of all. There is nothing to worry about, whether you've already played the original Pharaoh or not. One of the first things you absolutely need to focus on when starting to play Pharaoh: A New Era is the mission briefing that will sum up the main objectives to achieve and how to avoid defeat.
Step #2: Place your first plots of housing
After reading the mission briefing, it's time to start building the foundation of your dream kingdom. It all starts with the construction of plots of housing to populate the unoccupied lands of your future empire. Place the first housing to provide migrants with a suitable place to live.
One more tip: it's important to build roads that link the Kingdom Road to your plots of housing to guarantee access and free movement to your citizens and future workers.
Step #3 Access to water is the key
To offer a better standard of living and upgrade your citizens' housing, it's important to place wells nearby their households in other words on lands with underlying groundwater (noticeable with grass growing on them).
Step #4: these are the services you'll need to guarantee the safety of your citizens and workers
Once the first buildings and housing are placed and water supplies are provided, it's time to build an architect's office as well as a fire station to prevent any fire or collapse. Other useful services will be available later on (police station, doctor, apothecary, courthouse, etc.).
One more tip: make sure to place those services nearby households and any other public building (granaries, temples, palaces, etc.).
Step #5: local trade and exploitation of the kingdom's resources
Each kingdom has its specific layout, resources, and wildlife. To ensure good exploitation of the resources present in your kingdom it's essential to build:
Hunting lodges to hunt the wild animals that populated the kingdom's lands and deliver the meat to the Granaries
Granaries to preserve the meat and deliver it to distributors
Bazaar to guarantee distribution to your citizens
In the next missions, you'll also have to build:
Recruitment camps near the lands that will be plowed and cultivated
Plots of chickpeas, barley, and other resources
Mine to exploit the lands that abound in precious stones such as gold
Clay pits, potteries, etc.
One more tip: make sure to build an architect's office and fire station nearby recruitment camps, mines, or clay pits that also are
