Upcoming Patch

Hi all! Apologies for the radio silence on Steam. I've still been intermitently active over on discord, but for the most part real life stuff has taken up most of my time.

addedUpcoming PatchI've been working on a content patch for the game to add:
addedUpcoming Patch2 new challenge modifiers
addedBadgesThere will be 7 new badges coming to the game. Some of these new badges are really out there and have required quite a bit of work. An example of two of them is:
changedBadgesa badge that changes the undo button to a different ability - Pay $2 to upgrade a random friendly piece by 1-3 value This synergises with other upgrade badges as expected
addedChallenge ModifiersI've added 2 new modes. The first limits the pieces you see in the shop to standard chess pieces. The second removes all win conditions apart from getting a checkmate on your opponent.
changedChallenge ModifiersI also intend to rebalance the challenge levels given by each modifier.

Hi all! Apologies for the radio silence on Steam. I've still been intermitently active over on discord, but for the most part real life stuff has taken up most of my time. I've been fighting wrist issues, I quit my day job, and my son was born in November last year! Which has also unfortunately meant I've had less time to work on Passant, but I've been making progress all the same.

I've also been working on a mobile version of the game, which is still on track to launch in the first half of 2026 and I should have further details on this over on discord hopefully soon™.

I want to say thank you to everyone that's played the game, talked about it, left a review or joined the discord. I really appreciate it.

Upcoming Patch

I've been working on a content patch for the game to add:

  1. some badge ideas suggested by the community on discord (or inspired by those ideas)

  2. 2 new challenge modifiers

  3. A more exciting endless mode

Badges

There will be 7 new badges coming to the game. Some of these new badges are really out there and have required quite a bit of work. An example of two of them is:

  • a badge that lets you move your opponents pieces instead of your own on your turn (it does exclude kings and has a limit on how many times this can be done in a single match).

    • Pairing it with a badge like slippy chess will allow you to throw some of your opponents pieces off the board.

  • a badge that changes the undo button to a different ability - Pay $2 to upgrade a random friendly piece by 1-3 value

    • This synergises with other upgrade badges as expected

Challenge Modifiers

I've added 2 new modes. The first limits the pieces you see in the shop to standard chess pieces. The second removes all win conditions apart from getting a checkmate on your opponent.

I also intend to rebalance the challenge levels given by each modifier.

Endless Mode

Endless mode will be getting new cursed bosses. These bosses will require you to take on a new challenge mode, sacrafice something or pay up. This will hopefully make endless mode more interesting and challenging for those that find incredibly broken builds.

When can I play?

The patch will hopefully be launching next month (to be confirmed), with a short steam beta beforehand. As some of these changes have required a lot of backend stuff to change I want to have a longer testing period so new bugs don't get introduced. I'll be posting on discord when I'm ready for playtesters - If you're interested in helping out, please come join :)
