OutRune changes
As steam next fest is drawing closer and closer, I have been working like a mad man to get as much content into the game as I can to prepare the demo that will be launching for the festival. I thought I would take this opportunity to explain the story so far and what lies ahead as I continue the development of OutRune, a personal passion project that I hope scratches the itch for lovers of traditional rogue-like games as well as all gamers who want to jump into an exciting yet dark trip down fantasy lane.
OutRune, at its core, is a traditional rogue-like game brought into the 3D world with some modern tech, some dark lore, and an ever growing universe that I have been creating in my spare time.
As a full time game developer I am always creating games that were thought up by other people, I had my input, of course, but I thought it was time to create a fairly smaller scale game that was born from my own ideas and story telling ambitions. The more I developed this simple Idea the more it grew and more systems and content was added, it's a long way away from the simple concept I started 6 months ago with an even further way to go until I am satisfied with the level of content to justify asking for people to buy it! But Next Fest is a fantastic opportunity to start introducing people to the game with the demo, which is a preview for what is to come with much much more in the works and a plan to release to early access in quarter 4 of 2023. The demo will be a bitesize version of the final product, a little sip of the full pint of content I have planned.
I wanted players to have the opportunity to give feedback and to start creating a tight knit community to help grow the game into something that everybody has fun playing, without being restricted by corporate chain of command and empty promises that we see littering the game industry right now.
So stay tuned for the release of the demo during the festival, enjoy the preview, and do drop some feedback if you have something to say!
Elliot Gascoigne The developer and creator of OutRune.
