addedThe Great Codebase CleanupBecause of this, before I start building the next major update, I’m taking a brief pause to do some spring cleaning. I am going to be combing through the code, refactoring, and reorganizing everything under the hood. While this takes a little bit of time, tackling this technical debt now will make developing new features much faster and smoother for the long-term health of the game.
changedSneak Peek: The Next UpdateNow, onto the fun stuff! Once the foundation is nice and tidy, I have a lot of cool things in store for the next update. Here is a quick taste of what you can expect:
addedSneak Peek: The Next UpdateThe Hacking System: A brand-new mechanic to change up your gameplay loop. You'll be able to hack into enemy ships and disable their shields, their engines, or a hardpoint! Or maybe hack into a station and lower the price of that Armament or Module you've been eyeing...
addedSneak Peek: The Next UpdateA New Module Rarity: Get ready to hunt down some powerful new upgrades, with Nova modules. These modules will significantly change how the game is played. You might find one that makes you only consume fuel every three moves, but every time you move once, enemies move twice. Another Nova module might transfer almost your entire Hull bar to your shield bar, leaving you at 1 Hull, but a lot more shield. Another yet might Make weapons cost Shield instead of Energy. You get the picture. Fundamental gameplay changes, dressed into equipped modules.

First off, I want to say a massive thank you for all your support and feedback so far. Being a first-time solo dev is an incredible journey, but it definitely comes with a lot of learning experiences!

The Great Codebase Cleanup

If you've ever dabbled in game development, you know that over time, a project's code can turn into a bit of a tangled web. I’ll admit, the [c]Ctrl+F[/c] search function has been an absolute lifesaver for me lately. However, I've found myself working inside a growing, monolithic codebase that is getting harder and harder to navigate each day.

Because of this, before I start building the next major update, I’m taking a brief pause to do some spring cleaning. I am going to be combing through the code, refactoring, and reorganizing everything under the hood. While this takes a little bit of time, tackling this technical debt now will make developing new features much faster and smoother for the long-term health of the game.

Sneak Peek: The Next Update

  • Massive Surprises: I have a few really big secrets up my sleeve that I'm confident will make your adventures much more fun, and expand the universe quite a bit.

I truly appreciate your patience while I get the game's foundation rock-solid, and your continued support means the world to me. I'll have more to share about the timeline for the next update once I've finished cleaning up the codebase.

Thanks for flying with me, |||HopefullyHeroic
