Neon Rain changes
To catch everyone up: I went on vacation in early March and then, unfortunately, got very sick shortly after coming back, which pushed game development onto the back burner for a while. The curse of being a part-time developer, right?
Anyway, things are getting back on track. The Player Request Update is almost complete and should release sometime next week.
A feature I’ll be adding that wasn’t mentioned in the previous announcement is the ability to keybind the healing drink and energy drink. That request came up after the initial Next Fest rush, and it will be a very worthwhile inclusion.
I also plan to do a deeper pass on the demo during Holy Friday and Easter to catch smaller oversights and polish things further.
Just a friendly reminder that larger features such as a map system or a player journal cannot be implemented in the demo, since doing so would risk breaking this demo build.
Since my favorite part of development has always been creating creatures and designing levels, I still found myself revising levels and working on enemies, even while I was sick. I find that much more relaxing than programming or playtesting.
Because of that, the level revisions are going to be more extensive than I originally planned.
In particular:
Some of the platforming in Level 1 will be toned down slightly
Level 2 will see a bit more significant pacing and platforming adjustments
As for the strafe-jumping tutorial revision, I’ve decided to merge it into the larger level revision update, since I already want to make more significant changes to those areas, it will save time anyway.
For anyone wondering why I’m putting this much support into the demo, I want it to be substantial and polished enough for it to stay up for as long as a year while I work on the Early Access build.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Here are some screenshots I’m comfortable sharing of what I worked on while I was sick.
(Note: this enemy is not the mini-boss I mentioned before.)
