Hello Librarians!

  • Gameplay
addedMy original plan was for May to be the month where I am getting a demo ready. However, a lot of time has been swept up in unexpected beaurocracy and admin work, so that progress on the game has been slower than I wanted over the past 4 weeks. I am also exploring the addition of a new core feature, but as that is not fleshed out yet, let's move that topic to the next update...
changedThe playtest and demo will at first not contain any combat mechanics and only focus on the library gameplay.
changedBased on playtest & demo feedback I will then have to see if a Q3 release is still possible at all or if I will have to move it into Q4 to adress feedback. That remains to be seen, I will keep you updated!

I am Elena, the solo developer behind My Necromancer’s Library.

Today I wanted to give you a little overview of the state of development of My Necromancer’s Library and what you can expect in the next few months.

My original plan was for May to be the month where I am getting a demo ready. However, a lot of time has been swept up in unexpected beaurocracy and admin work, so that progress on the game has been slower than I wanted over the past 4 weeks. I am also exploring the addition of a new core feature, but as that is not fleshed out yet, let's move that topic to the next update...

Despite all that, I am preparing to release at the very least an open playtest in early June, if I can not polish it enough for a proper demo.

With your valuable feedback (and bug reports), a demo will be ready in July latest.

Playtest / Demo Content

The playtest and demo will at first not contain any combat mechanics and only focus on the library gameplay.

That is because:

  1. while the combat mechanics theoretically already work, I will not have enough time to create the necessary balanced content for it to be fun and
  2. the playtest & demo will cover the intro of the game, which does not introduce combat yet.

In fact, the intro takes place in a different city in a different library! Your character will learn the tools of the trade in a Temple Library, before heading into the mountains to claim their strange inheritance :) Here's what the WIP scene looks like in editor right now:

Because of that...

Based on playtest & demo feedback I will then have to see if a Q3 release is still possible at all or if I will have to move it into Q4 to adress feedback. That remains to be seen, I will keep you updated!

TL;DR:

  • June: Open Playtest or Demo, depending on progress

  • July: Demo will definitely be up and running

  • possibly move release into Q4, based on feedback
