Mutiny Island changes
Hi everyone,
Almost seven years after release, Mutiny Island has received a brand new feature: experimental online multiplayer.
Players can now host or join online lobbies with up to four players. Multiplayer can be accessed from the MP menu after loading into your save file. Public and private lobbies are supported, with private games using a room code system. Each player can freely explore the whole map at their own leisure without any tethers.
Online Lobbies
The new lobby system lets players host, browse, search, refresh, and join multiplayer games. Lobbies can be set as public or private, and players can filter games by PvE or PvP mode. Items can be brought over freely into online and back into single player.
PvE Presence Mode
PvE mode lets players see each other while playing in the world. You can meet up, chat, emote, trade, and see where other players are while exploring.
This mode is focused on playing alongside other players rather than sharing full world combat. World enemies and combat are not shared in PvE Presence Mode.
PvP Mode
PvP mode is the combat-focused multiplayer option. In this mode, players can damage each other directly, and player defeats are announced to the lobby.
PvP also enables shared host-side combat encounters. Active enemies from the host’s world can appear for connected players, including their movement, animations, health, and defeated state. This allows players to take part in the same combat encounter, with the host keeping the main enemy state in sync for the lobby.
Loot and resources in PvP are shared through the host’s world rather than being separate per player, so players may need to coordinate and share supplies to get by.
Because this mode shares more active combat information, it may feel rougher or less predictable than PvE Presence Mode while multiplayer is still experimental.
Chat and Trading
Players can now chat with each other in multiplayer lobbies. Trading has also been added, allowing players to trade gold and inventory items. Both players must confirm a trade before it is completed. Some special items cannot be traded.
Other Features
This update also includes WASD as a default control option. Pressing reset to default controls in the Keyboard Settings menu will restore the default control configuration for you.
Automatic save backups are created when hosting or joining a multiplayer lobby and can be found in the Save folder.
Pressing F4 will now allow you to run the game in True Fullscreen.
Important Note
Multiplayer is experimental and may still have bugs, rough edges, or unusual behaviour. Please back up important saves and report any issues you find.
