changedWhat is Moonlite - 1975?Moonlite - 1975 - is a retro-inspired lunar-looting exploration-expedition. You play as an unnamed astronaut armed with a trusty spacesuit, shovel, hammer and metal-detector as you undertake a time-limited moon mission on a quest for treasure, knowledge and more. The game is presented via a top-down 2D aesthetic and aims to channel some of my favourite sci-fi stories from the days-of-old.

Moonlite 1975

To celebrate the countdown-to-release, I put together a short preview trailer:

If you're keen to support, head over to the store page to wish-list and/or drop me some comments. The exact release date is TBD but all going well it should be available to play on Steam soon.

What is Moonlite - 1975?

Moonlite - 1975 - is a retro-inspired lunar-looting exploration-expedition.

The core gameplay has elements of exploration, survival and - most importantly - treasure-hunting. The game is currently in a pre-alpha state (a work-in-progress across the board) and will be landing via Steam (PC) first via Early Access. The following section details the launch build features...

Mission 0.5 - Treasure Hunt - Overview

This version includes a single map and game mode by means of 'Mission 0.5 - Treasure Hunt' - a scripted experience showcasing the primary exploration, survival and treasure-hunting loop. Available features are:

  • 9 unique surface quadrants to explore - each with their own hazards, treasures and weather

  • 7 distinct tools to master - compass, flashlight, spade, hammer, detector, radar and receiver

  • 3 in-game days to locate the ultimate treasure; you can try for 100% treasures too if you like

  • 2 controllable styles - explore the surface on-foot and fly through the sky in your lander to progress

  • Health, oxygen, stamina, temperature, time and fuel management & tracking - keep them stocked!

  • Purchase new tools, abilities, upgrades and extensions at the store using credits and energy

  • Looping - 2D, top-down & wrap-around - lunar surface which you can explore as you please

  • Dig up treasure, energy, tools and items to aid your adventure

  • Rest to recover your health, oxygen and stamina

  • Inventory, map, clues and objectives

  • 11 Steam achievements to unlock

  • 1 save slot - save at the lander

  • Lunar lore to discover

The launch build will target PC-only and keyboard-only input; this build is designed like a mini-version of the [anticipated] full adventure in that there's a distinct beginning, middle and end, The game is still, however, a work-in-progress; bugs are likely - and I'm keen to receive feedback as I evolve the game further - so keep this in mind as you decide to purchase now or wait for the full release.

Pre-Release Testing & Feedback

If this game seems like your jam and you're keen to help out with some playtesting, I'll be doing a call-out for pre-release testing and feedback very soon.

Regardless, I'm keen to hear any thoughts and feedback you have about the game so far - comments, questions and suggestions are all encouraged!

Here's another video which previews [unedited] gameplay from the latest [0.5] demo:

I've tried to keep the footage relatively spoiler-free as there's lots of surprises to dig-up!

I'll be doing some updated making-of posts after the game launches.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for further updates.
