Monster Girl Descent changes
A bit of a surprise announcement for you all here.
Recently, Monster Girl Descent has dropped down to mixed reviews on steam. Whilst it makes me sad, I can honestly see why. Player feedback has made it clear that several areas of Monster Girl Descent need more fundamental improvements than the current version can reasonably accommodate.
So for the past few weeks/month I have been COMPLETELY remaking and rebuilding the game. The game is being rebuilt from scratch in unity.
The rebuilt version will be provided to all existing owners as a free update.
I am moving away from RPG Maker for the first time in my life.
I love RPG Maker, it is my bread and butter and I have spent 20 years using it. But honestly at this stage, I find myself limited by it. There's a lot of engine limitations that simply don't let me live out my ideas without crazy engine modifications or without it fighting against me every step of the way.
I am using the RPG Maker version as a design template and fixing up/changing a ton of the fundamental flaws along the way.
In the end the game should be more stable, better optimised for all systems and also better looking and higher resolution in general as we won't be held back by RPG Maker any longer.
With me rebuilding everything again, hopefully the overall gameplay design will also be more fun and rewarding.
Things are going better than I ever could have dreamed, there's already a functional prototype with the card battles, dungeon exploration and even the town map which lets you move between areas.
It hasn't been the easiest thing for me to learn, since I've never done something this high level before, but things are coming along SO nicely!
Even the H-Scenes are working as intended! (Still needs some tweaks)
This is obviously still VERY WIP so there's a ton of placeholder assets and UI right now. But the most important part is that the core game loop is already functional!
There's a lot more foundational and technical work needed. Then I'll need to flesh things out, add more features, finish moving over all the cards and items from the original game and then get to work on making the graphics and UI look nice and sparkly.
Here's some more screenshots of the current state of the project:
I'm not sure when this will become available to you all but honestly with the rate that things have been going, I think I'll be able to get a decent build out sooner rather than later. As long as no major issues crop up along the way. But I do not want to promise a date until I am confident the build is ready.
Then eventually it'll be goodbye to the RPG maker version of the game and it'll be replaced by this version.
I am so excited to start this next step of the journey with you all and thank you so much for your support until now. If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate!
Much Love, MGGEDev
