addedController support comes to Mizuki and the Crimson Moon!Late happy new year everyone! It has been a while since a proper update post was made. Despite the length of silence, I have been hard at work on Mizuki and the Crimson Moon publishing smaller updates and working on this large one. Below you'll find a summary of notable additions, changes, and improvements along with a roadmap of where this demo and eventual game are headed.
changedController and Gamepad SupportMizuki and the Crimson Moon is now playable with most* controllers! Movement, combat, and teleportation have been improved to allow for enjoyable gameplay with a controller. Heads up though, it will most likely still be easier to play with a mouse and keyboard since that allows for the best control of Mizuki's teleportation. Lots of improvements and quality of life features will come out in the coming weeks to allow for controller gameplay to come as close as possible to mouse-and-keyboard gameplay.
addedQuality of Life Features and Improved GameplayLots of standard quality of life features have been added to gameplay to give more responsive controls and hopefully a more enjoyable experience playing the game. Player controls, movement physics, and input responsiveness have been reworked and improved this update. Teleportation information for Mizuki is also a bit more visible.
changedImprove UI Layout and DesignA lot of work has gone into making the UI look and feel better. Pause menus are less clunky and have much better graphics to go with them.
changedLots of Other Bug Fixes and ImprovementsThis section is hard to sum up because throughout everything listed up above, so many small changes and improvements were made. It would take a lot of text to list them all (and there are quite a few that I lost track of), so I will list the general groups or more notable changes below:
fixedLots of Other Bug Fixes and ImprovementsStage redesigns with a smaller tile collision and no transition zones

Controller support comes to Mizuki and the Crimson Moon!

Late happy new year everyone!

Controller and Gamepad Support

Mizuki and the Crimson Moon is now playable with most* controllers!

*Nintendo Switch controllers are incompatible.

Quality of Life Features and Improved Gameplay

Lots of standard quality of life features have been added to gameplay to give more responsive controls and hopefully a more enjoyable experience playing the game. Player controls, movement physics, and input responsiveness have been reworked and improved this update. Teleportation information for Mizuki is also a bit more visible.

Improve UI Layout and Design

A lot of work has gone into making the UI look and feel better. Pause menus are less clunky and have much better graphics to go with them.

Lots of Other Bug Fixes and Improvements

This section is hard to sum up because throughout everything listed up above, so many small changes and improvements were made. It would take a lot of text to list them all (and there are quite a few that I lost track of), so I will list the general groups or more notable changes below:

  • Stage redesigns with a smaller tile collision and no transition zones

  • Added checkpoints to stages

  • Enemy AI improvements and attack adjustments

  • Tileset and background adjustments

  • Made coins easier to collect

  • Many other changes I forgot about

  • Added mild lighting to the Yokai Village (other areas to come soon)

What's Happening with the Demo Now?

The demo is on track to be completed this year. 'Completed' means that the first area (The Yokai Forest) will be 100% completed from a gameplay perspective. That includes the fabled and soon to come boss fight with the Yokai Hunter. A lot of big life events have happened to me recently, so demo progress has been slow, but I am still committed to weekly progress and continual improvement to Mizuki and the Crimson Moon. Once the demo is completed, I will continue work on my game until Mizuki and the Crimson Moon is released! So until then, thank you for sticking around. If you have any feedback or suggestions for Mizuki and the Crimson Moon, please let me know! You can contact me over in the Mizuki and the Crimson Moon discord channel or in the other methods listed on the Steam page.

Have a great week!
