Miss Paint changes
Hey y’all,
We were going to make this newsletter earlier, but we didn’t! We’re really excited to tell you about some of the updates we’re making to Miss Paint.
MISS PAINT
This game started all the way back in December 2023 at the BIGMODE Game Jam. If you’ve done a game jam before, you should know that when you only have a few days to write code, you sometimes are left with a steaming hot pile of spaghetti. When we decided to finish the game originally, we unwisely chose to build a house on top of that pile of spaghetti. Lesson to any aspiring game devs who want to continue a game past a jam: just make a new project. Don’t wait 7 months like we did.
So yeah, we had to reprogram the entire game from scratch since the demo released. However, even with that setback, we are now much further along in development than we were before.
Pop-up Windows?!?
Those of you who messed around with the popup in the demo might remember how it didn’t exactly work fully. We shoehorned that feature into the demo at the last minute.
But with the new version of the game, we’ve been building everything around this mechanic. Which means it now works fully with every other mechanic in the game.
We’ve been building some puzzles with them and they’ve blown the doors wide open for what this game can do. So get ready to dust off the ol’ thinking cap! Steam post image
New Tools
Are you guys ready for all the brand-spanking-new tools we made? Too bad! We’re only showing you one of them!
The Fill Tool
Introducing the Fill Tool. It’s a fill bucket, you know what this is, you’ve used it before. And now Miss Paint can use it too!
Meet Clampy
This is Clampy, your friendly DoorsOS Helper! Actually, ew. That’s an old version of him, conceptualized way back during the game jam.
Ah, much better. Thankfully, using the power of us remembering where we put the Blender files, he’s back! His job is to tell you how to help you be creative! Just in case you try to do it wrong!
NEW STEAM ART!
WOAH! Check out this awesome art @dreweyes made for our steam page! In fact we like it so much we’re gonna change Miss Paint’s design!
That’s right, she has shoes now.
WHAT'S NEXT?
As we finish programming the systems for Miss Paint, we’re heading into a level design and story-oriented phase of development. Once we have a mostly finished product, we’ll start improving how the game feels as a whole with playtesting and accessibility features. While there’s no concrete timeline for release yet, we’re aiming to release within the next year (2026).
Q&A
Q: Will there be colorblind settings in the full version?
A: Yes. Each color in levels will be fully customizable, with presets for each colorblindness type.
Q: Is there a level editor?
A: Yes.
Q: Console port? Mobile port?
A: Maybe. It might have to wait until after release, since we’re focusing on core features right now. We’re optimistic about these options and more information will be available in the future.
Q: Is that a homestuck reference?
A: No.
Q: Is there a Mister Paint?
A: No.
Q: Will the game be free?
A: No. It will be $14.99
