Story time!

Some of you may have noticed that there are a series of "man on the street" bits with Jimmy "The Hammer" Valentine that play on the radio in Mewgenics, maybe even a few of you remember those rare DJ Bill segments?

Well if any of these bits have given you a chuckle, let me sit you down and tell you a little story... a story that involves fishing, kinda.

One random Saturday in 1993, I was watching SNL (this is when it was good, I swear), and shortly after it ended the screen went black and weird white text appeared warning the viewer that the following show was not endorsed by this station. Then 2 guys appeared with fishing poles, discussing fishing techniques that made little to no sense. The banter seemed improvised but the punchlines hit perfectly. By the end of the show, I felt like I had wasted 30 minutes, but the show haunted me. It was a low/no budget fishing show making fun of low/no budget fishing shows, taking advantage of the fact that I was up at 1 a.m. on a weekend with no way to fast forward or rewind. I was totally in awe, the next week I watched it again, and again and again...

I can't express how much this show affected me. It was equal parts smart, stupid, funny and dull. It was the butt of the joke and often times so were you. It was a totally independently made TV series by 2 guys that somehow made its way to mainstream TV yet looked like a cable access show. It was mind blowing and it felt like it was airing just for me.

That show was called Fishmasters, it aired all over the west coast, Texas and as far as Florida from 1993 to 2001.

A few years back, I reached out to Carl, the creator of the show, and told him it would be a huge honor if he could meow for Mewgenics.. he came down and recorded at my home office and it was just the most nostalgic and surreal experience. Here was my hero meowing like a cat in ways that had me in pain from laughing so much.

A week later i contacted carl again, this time asking if he would be willing to reprise his side character role "Jimmy "the hammer" valentine" for the game, as a man on the street bit to be used on WMEW. within a day carl sent me 10 bits, totally improvised and totally insane.. he hit the nail on the head and it was like he just picked up where he left off 30 years ago. i commissioned a few more and then commissioned a few DJ Bill bits as well since he kept referencing "DJ Bill" in his segments—and the rest is history! Jimmy Valentine, REBORN!

during Mewgenics dev i promised myself that my next project would be something not at all game related... and it wasn't!

Over the last month I've edited, cleaned up and archived every episode of Fishmasters for your my viewing pleasure!

Nearly 100 episodes!!!!!

now i know what you are saying, "we dont care!", but if you loved any of the Jimmy bits, you will love this series and at the very least its an endless trove of 90s nostalgia!

But as I've mentioned above, Fishmasters could be intentionally horrible, a gag that was funny in retrospect but horrible if it was your first time viewing it... so here are my top 10 Fishmasters episodes ( in chronological order)
