changed16TH JUNE NEWSIt's been a little while, so I just wanted to fill you all in on what is going on with development. The last progress post I made showed of bot support progress. The bot support has been far more challenging than I had imagined, for the reasons explained in previous news posts, and I found myself getting stuck. I tried to work on one mini-game, then ran into dead ends, so tried something I thought would be easier, only to discover it was harder, then I have repeated the process again and again, only to get to a point where I realised I need to put the bot support on hold for now and work on something I CAN do, otherwise I think I might just go insane if I haven't already done so. SO WHAT HAVE I BEEN WORKING ON? Character creation! Steam post image It's looooooong overdue, like most things in Metal Heads development, but what I'm creating is a very robust, very fluid Metal Head creator, and once this is done, this can be applied to other aspects of Metal Heads too, such as a Boss character creator, and board creator. So far, I have made some amazing progress, and the general functionality of creating a player actually works no problems! I just need to refine all of the mechanics, hunt down the bugs, make a decent interface and ensure that the customer characters work all throughout the game. I also need to ensure it all works with a gamepad/controller in an intuitive way. The first iteration of the character creator is going to be just the ability to choose a specific head shape, then attach eyes, and other accessories to the head, wherever you want, however you like. At a later date, I intend to allow you all to select different body types, morph them, accessorize your metal head appropriately. (Select your head) Steam post image (Place Some Eyes...or not) Steam post image (Place some accessories, manipulate them using a control scheme similar to Blender (3d modelling software)) Steam post image (Edit already placed accessories) Steam post image You can see some GIF's here of where I'm currently at with the character creator. You can create your customer character, and then save the preset, which can then be loaded in the lobby Steam post image I still have a lot of work to do, and unfortunately as most of you know by now, my free time to work on Metal Heads is very limited, but I will keep on working on it whenever I possibly can to ensure you all get the game I want to create. I am super excited to see what you all come up with when I get the character editor working fully. WHEN WILL IT BE DONE? As always, I can't make promises. At this rate, I'm tempted to spend a few weeks making an asset flip friendslop game just so I can quit my day job and work on Metal Heads full time, but I am staying the course, don't worry, Metal Heads will not be abandoned, even if I did work on another project to bring in some income. Let me know what you all think in the comments
