addedMENACE News RecapSquad Leader Update 1 is the latest major update to release for MENACE. This update brings a ton of changes, but to get the full story, let's take a look at the two previous dev diaries. changedMENACE News RecapDev Diary #47 , part one of the squad leader update preview, takes a look at the additional non-squad leader-related updates, additions, and changes the squad leader update would bring. First up are AI improvements, which continue towards the goal of making sure the enemies are more aggressive in general. Beware pirate boarding commandos, who are especially aggressive and reckless now.
changedMENACE News RecapA big addition that this dev diary talks about is the addition of custom difficulty options. On game start, you will now be presented with an absolute wealth of difficulty options. Now you can make the game play exactly how you want it to! Adjusting armor supply costs, increasing demotion refunds, and starting with more squad leaders are now all options.
addedMENACE News RecapThe squad leader update will also bring a new alien wildlife operation, a UI overhaul for nested tooltips, new 3D weapon models, including the long-awaited laser rifle, and a new item, the Signal Jammer, which you can get from the black market for tactical use. Make sure to check out the entire dev diary here to get the full scoop from the Overhype Studio team.
addedMENACE News RecapDev Diary #48 is a direct continuation of the previous dev diary, this time discussing in depth the long-awaited new cast of squad leaders. These new squad leaders, unlike previous squad leaders, cannot be recruited from the black market but instead act as "Honor Guards" from the various planets in the Wayback and therefore are recruited by reaching a certain trust threshold with the faction they are bound to. Let's take a quick look at these new squad leaders from left to right!

  • Harlan Corlain hails from Dice of the Gods, born in the pipes buried deep beneath Dice's surface. Corlain managed to muscle his way topside, a surprising feat, and became the right-hand man for Frankie Sallustio. Harlan Corlain is a concealment-focused squad leader who likes to keep the action equal parts close and quiet.

  • Roisin "Rosie" Murdock runs security detail for Zayn-Beecher Inc. She may have been partially demoted in this role after her right arm was blown off, a debilitation that has moved her into piloting hardware instead of directly operating on the field. Murdock excels at gaining sudden advantages and squeezing value out of the margins.

  • Weiwu leads the "Spear of the Spine," one of the Backbone's elite infantry units. He comes from a military background not dissimilar to the Marines. Outside of his aptitude for combat, little is known about Weiwu's past. Weiwu is determined by destiny; being bloodied and beaten only encourages him more.

Make sure to check out this dev diary here to see exactly how these new Squad Leaders will play and interact with the world of MENACE.
