changedThe second month of 2026 is ending, and today I brought another development news of Defender Patrol's fully improved sequel, Low Level Hunters!
changedSnakes Got New ClothesThe vehicles in Low Level Hunters now got some camouflage paints to blend with terrain patterns and hopefully trick the enemy!
changedFlying in New LocationsNote that those different zones are not just palleteswap. each zones have their own atmosphere settings which affects your operation. In desert, the hotter temperature makes FLIR less useful and slightly degrades your flight performance, while it's the opposite in snowfield with much lower temperature.
changedColorful MapsInstead of the rather awkward black and white heightmap from Defender Patrol, there are now fully colorized map available in briefing screen and TSD screen, with city blocks and roads displayed on it.
changedRotor Control LagsThe semi-rigid main rotors of AH-1 Cobra and UH-1 Huey have massive inertia. It takes around 0.5 second for the main rotor to respond with cyclic input, when the pilot quickly moved the cyclic from center to farthest point.
changedRotor Control LagsAH-1F Cobra has Stability and Control Argumentation System to mitigate this lag and make the heli about as agile as defender, but UH-1H Huey in the future will not have this system, offering quite difference flying performance despite sharing exact same rotor components.

Flying in New Locations

In Low Level Hunters, you'll operate the helicopters not only in the grassfield but also desert and snowfield. Different camo colors are available in each different zones.

More Detailed Grounds

In order to have better sense of speed and height during low flying, the grounds have much more detailed patterns compared to defender patrol. there are also some pixelated pattern applied on helipads to achieve the same effect and reduce the frustration in precise landing.

Colorful Maps

Instead of the rather awkward black and white heightmap from Defender Patrol, there are now fully colorized map available in briefing screen and TSD screen, with city blocks and roads displayed on it.

Rotor Control Lags

The semi-rigid main rotors of AH-1 Cobra and UH-1 Huey have massive inertia. It takes around 0.5 second for the main rotor to respond with cyclic input, when the pilot quickly moved the cyclic from center to farthest point.

AH-1F Cobra has Stability and Control Argumentation System to mitigate this lag and make the heli about as agile as defender, but UH-1H Huey in the future will not have this system, offering quite difference flying performance despite sharing exact same rotor components.

With this control lags, overly erratic cyclic movements should be avoided. Move your hand gently, and chopper will have better response.

Optimization Revolution

Perhaps the most important work in this month is the optimization.

Defender Patrol had been suffering serious optimization issue as the game only abused single core of the CPU, especially for ballistics simulation and flight model.

Low Level Hunters now utilize Multi threading to greatly improve the performance while having more units and larger draw distance!

Along with level of details applied for every single objects in the game, Low Level Hunters can maintain solid 90 fps in VR while having around 300 alive units.

Downfall of Society and Civilization

This multi threading optimization allowed a feature that was not possible in Defender Patrol -- destructible objects!

The trees, buildings, and civilian's homes are now fully destructible. Civilization in Low Level Hunters is now under a danger of mass destruction by one ruthless flying snake.

While it's fine to cause some havoc in casual quick game mode, too much civilian destruction in the campaign will be severely punished. Players should be careful when engaging around cities, especially with howitzer fire support!

What Happens Now???

With these ground works I have done in January and February, I'm now prepared to make real new contents for the sequel.

My work in the next month will be creating new set of buildings and other decorations for Desert and Snowfield, exploding wildlifes(vampire deers, camels, polar bears), and tougher new opponents like S-125 Neva/Pechora, 2K12 Kub(with chaff dispenser), ATGM upgraded T-72, 9K35 strela-10, and many more!

I'll also prepare the pre-release steam page of Low Level Hunters with an announcement trailer soon!
