Greetings, Lords!

After reading some feedback, I decided to prepare an update for the Early Access version.

Changelog:

  • Graphic filters to change the game’s mood

  • New neutral creature – Void Dragon

  • New hotkeys

  • Several improvements and fixes

More details below!

Graphic filters

At this point, I can’t simply redraw all the game’s assets (mostly because I’m a programmer, so I hired an artist to handle the visuals).

But! I am a programmer — so I can code something instead. 😄

I’ve added several graphic filters that change the overall mood of the game. Maybe one of them will make the visuals more enjoyable for you.

You can switch between filters in-game using the TAB key.

Below you can see the same screenshot shown with each available filter.

New neutral creature (Void Dragon)

One piece of feedback I received was literally this:

“Will you consider adding Ice Dragon, Green Dragon, Gold Dragon, Black Dragon, Crystal Dragon, Rust Dragon, or Fairy Dragon later?”

I see what you did there 🙂 And you’re right — I had no reference yet to the most beloved turn-based strategy classic. So I decided to add one of them!

After considering which one would improve the game the most, I chose the Fairy Dragon.

However, “Fairy” didn’t quite fit the dark fantasy tone of Lords of the Void. So I renamed it to Void Dragon.

It’s a neutral spellcaster unit with the ability to:

  • Cast a random damage-dealing spell on an enemy or

  • Apply a random positive effect to a friendly unit

You can think of it as a mix between a Genie and a Fairy Dragon from our favorite classic.

A new dragon might be spotted now in every final campaigns missions, in Dragon hunters scenario and in a completely new map called Beast in chains. In the last one, every player starts the game with the Void Dragon!

New hotkeys

There was also a request for additional hotkeys — so here they are:

  • Q – Open/close Capital panel

  • W – Open/close faction ability panel on the map

  • E – Open/close build structure panel

  • R – End turn

  • TAB – Change graphic filter

There was also a request to change how the auto-battle results work, but for now I’ve decided to leave them as they are. Adjusting this system would require a significant amount of testing, and it’s important that the results remain reliable and useful.

If there’s more demand for this change, I’ll definitely take a closer look and work on improving it!

Few improvements and fixes

  • Fixed a soft-freeze bugafter unbinding a Glyph from a Unit, the player couldn’t move Teams. The only workaround was to end the turn, which unlocked the game on the next round. This is now fixed
  • AI players will now achieve better auto-battle results against Neutral teams, making the game more challenging

  • Randomly selected Ruins types are now properly stored in save files

  • Fixed a Map Editor bug related to removing a Dwelling next to a Player’s structure. Previously, the Player would lose control over the structure and it would become Neutral

  • Fixed a Map Editor bug related to removing Roads. They were not properly deleted and would reappear after reloading the map

Thank you

Last but not least, I would like to say thank you to everyone who decided to spend time with Lords of the Void.

This game has been a huge project for me. I truly did my best with every aspect — gameplay, story, mood, and style.

Special thanks to Alamut and Apatuha. Both of you played 88–90 hours, completed almost all campaigns, and wrote detailed reviews.

Thank you very much — you made my day. 🙂

Since the game has received relatively low attention, I’m going to stay quiet for a while. Maybe another update will come someday (perhaps with online multiplayer).

For now, though, I feel like there isn’t much more I can do to make the game more popular.
