Linklight changes
Summary:
2020 has been a wild ride for most people, ourselves included. From having Linklight written out on sheets of computer paper at the end of January, to life seemingly changing overnight back in March, to days upon days of being indoors and creating the rest of the year, to finally releasing in November. It has certainly been a one of a kind journey.
Fast forwarding to now, the major update has been well received so far, so we're incredibly happy. There are no major bug reports or issues that have been discovered as of yet thankfully; however, we discovered a minor UI bug that will be patched this upcoming week.
Linklight has also now sold just over 100 copies! This is an incredible milestone for us, and we can't believe we managed to hit it before the year ended. I know we say thank you a lot, but thank you all so much again for the incredible support we've received so far! We have grand plans for Linklight and there's a good chance a lot of them will be accomplished this year.
For the month of January, we have a lot of internal changes planned. We will focus on refactoring the game's internal code, that way we can make future changes much more easily and more efficiently. We want to start the year off with a solid code base that is efficient and organized. For those not familiar with programming, refactoring is basically restructuring and changing code to make it more efficient and maintainable.
The game also has FPS issues which worsen on larger levels; we spent the end of the year and the beginning of this month discovering where these issues come from. The main cause of these issues is from the game's engine, more specifically the rendering process and the object destruction process. We will focus on optimizing these areas of the engine, which will lead to universal FPS performance increases. In short, we will be taking time to organize and optimize the game's code, which will give us a solid code base to work with the rest of the year, and lead to FPS increases in all areas of the game for all users.
We know this will be a slower month for the game, but it is an important step that should be taken now before we go further.
Thank you all for sticking with us,
Highrise Software
