Repeated intro
Hey World,
What changed
- Balance
- Gameplay
- Performance
MonRiverGames here. We're a small non-profit organization run by faculty, students, and community members of the Game Design and Interactive Media program at West Virginia University. Most of us are not professionals. We have non game dev day jobs and/or are hoping to one day have this as our day job. Our professors and senior level community members teach us, but we also teach each other. In many ways, we're a learning cooperative. This information is important context to playing any of our games. Please keep it in mind.
Today, we're releasing our first game on Early Access and on Steam in general. To be honest, we weren't sure which of the many projects we've been cooking would get this honor. It could have been Derby, Chumps Chained, or the GDIM Arcade.
This is not a finished game. It is an Early Access game that we need your help to finish. You can help by playing and reporting bugs as well as ways you think the game could be improved. We'll have a form you can fill out soon, but for now feel free to email us at monrivergames@gmail.com. There are also opportunities to volunteer in a remote way, if you desire. We have been working on this for 2 years. There are quirks, "features", and moments where you might curse at us. The game loop is solid. There are enough levels to play through to get a feel for what we're going for. This is the result of over 20 different individuals learning how to use the Unreal Engine together, in batches of 5-10, each semester.
We've placed the starting price at below $1 to encourage you to take a small risk on us. When we're finished, we may price as high as 9.99, but we do intend to keep the price relatively low. We'll do this incrementally. Summer 2026 will be the first increase. As a nonprofit, we are not in this to make money, but we need to be able to support our students and members better. Anything we make goes back into the mission: providing professional and educational experiences within game development. That can be in a variety of ways but what we'd like to do next is financially support sending them to GDC, PAX, and other great conventions to show the unique, fun games they're dreaming up.
Notes for this release:
- This is a local co-op
- All four players will always load in.
You won't get to pick. Sorry! We're working on that. - Power on up to 4 controllers before launching the game - If you have less than 4, then let the others you're not using explode first. x) - Take note of what exactly was going on should the game suddenly crash.
Lots of love, MonRiverGames
