Hi everyone, and welcome to the first monthly update for Lichworks!

Since this is the first update since launching the Steam page, I wanted to take the time to explain the vision I have for the game.

Lichworks is a necromancer-themed automation strategy game where you play as a lich who seeks to bend the world around him to his will through the use of his undead minions, who serve both as his loyal soldiers and as the backbone of his logistical network.

Automation meets Strategy

When I first decided I wanted to dedicate myself full-time to making a game, I wanted to make something that brought something new to the table. Not just its combination of aesthetic and genre, but something that offers a novel gameplay experience for fans of strategy games who value player agency.

What I ended up coming up with is Lichworks, a game combining different features and mechanics from automation and real-time strategy genres in ways that I hadn't seen done before.

Thinking with Minions

With conveyor belt technology yet to be discovered, the lich is left to improvise with the humble signpost, allowing minions to be directed forth into Loops:

Once the minions are on the signpost loop, they can interact with buildings that link up with signposts, allowing for automated depositing and withdrawing of items:

Combined with the minions' ability to harvest resources from the world around them, this gives the lich everything he needs to lay down his new foundations.

Looking to the future

I'm excited to share all the features I have been developing, along with the ones that have yet to be brought to life within the game itself over the upcoming monthly updates!

A hard release date has not yet been set for Lichworks. It's difficult for me to nail down at this point, but the top priority is ensuring that the game released is an enjoyable and refined experience for fans of the automation and/or real-time strategy genres.

Join the private playtest

For those who are keen to get involved in Lichworks, play early builds, and help decide the direction of the game, I have set up an official Discord for this purpose: https://discord.gg/xBqD9Ureca

Finally, a thank you to everyone who has wishlisted Lichworks and ill see you in the next update!
