Legendary Tales changes
Time seems to be moving incredibly fast. It has already been a month since the release of the Legendary Tales DLC.
To be honest, the past month has been a blur.
In our commitment to reflecting user feedback as quickly as possible, our team has been working tirelessly, often sacrificing sleep to keep up with the pace. During the first two weeks especially, we were operating in a whirlwind, pushing out patches three to four times a week. We want to sincerely thank you for providing so much feedback filled with love for the game.
Now that a month has passed, the game feels significantly more stable.
Most of the major bugs have been addressed, and we feel a sense of pride seeing the balance issues improve.
Since it seems our fans can finally enjoy Legendary Tales more comfortably, I believe it is the right time to sit down and talk about our future.
This might be a long read, so please feel free to grab a warm cup of coffee before you continue.
Looking at the current state of Legendary Tales, I feel that most of the ideas we had when we first launched in Early Access on Steam have now been realized.
In some areas, we have even achieved more than we initially imagined. Because of this, I have spent the last month deeply contemplating our next steps.
As many of you are aware, we faced significant losses due to the game not being visible on the Meta Store for the first two months of its launch.
These are losses that are difficult to recover in a short period. Recovering the development costs for the DLC will likely take even longer.
Consequently, we seriously considered whether the best choice for the company and the team would be to start a new project that isn't a VR game.
As the team gets older, providing a stable environment is a priority for me, and the current instability has made this a very difficult time for decision-making.
While I couldn't share the full weight of these concerns with the team, they understood the situation when discussed on the surface.
I am incredibly grateful for such a supportive team.
However, a small part of me still felt a lingering regret and a sense of debt to our fans.
I spent a lot of time and energy deciding whether it was right to simply move on because of financial difficulties, leaving that regret and our fans behind. When I founded this company nine years ago, my goal was to create deep, immersive VR games that people could truly enjoy.
Profit was never the primary objective, and I want to maintain that pride until the very end.
With that background, I would like to share our rough roadmap based on the decisions we’ve made.
Friendly Fire We are currently working on a Friendly Fire feature. The goal is to create more entertaining and unpredictable situations during co-op play. While we expect some players might use this for PvP, I want to be clear: this is not being developed as a dedicated PvP feature. We expect to complete this by this summer.
Sandbox Mode
Unlike many other games, Legendary Tales did not start as a sandbox title. As I’ve mentioned, my desire to create a deep game felt at odds with the sandbox genre. Long-time followers may have noticed my consistent stance on this; whenever sandbox features were suggested, I postponed them. I believed it was extremely difficult to build a deep, structured game starting from a sandbox foundation. However, since the core features we originally planned are now complete, I believe it is finally time to integrate those systems into a sandbox format. We have begun development on Sandbox Mode, aiming for a beta release this summer and full completion by autumn. Thank you for your patience on this.
- The following items (3 through 5) are currently in a TBD (To Be Determined) status. They are not definitive promises but rather goals we will pursue if feasible.
Mod Support (TBD)
For years, players have requested Mod support alongside Sandbox. My stance has always been that games built primarily for Mod support struggle to achieve depth, especially given the complexity of VR game design. Looking at the current VR landscape, it remains rare to find a game where the core depth was significantly enhanced through Mods alone. That said, Legendary Tales now possesses a very deep and broad system, and I believe Mod support could allow our community to achieve incredible things. However, since our entire system was not originally built with Mods in mind, development will be time-consuming and may even prove impossible. But as we enter the final stages of the game's development, I believe it is worth a challenge. We intend to start with the most minimal support for single-player only. Given the scale of the game and the heavy use of physics, we cannot promise multiplayer Mod support with our current resources. I do not want to make promises I cannot keep, so for now, we will research its feasibility for single-player. (But also we will dig into MP as well ofc)
Roguelite Mode (TBD)
I want to express my gratitude to those who have played since Early Access. I know many of you miss the dungeon-focused gameplay of those early days. While it is difficult to provide standalone dungeons within the current structure of the game, we are researching a Roguelite Mode as a separate game mode. We have been conducting R&D on this for over six months, testing various iterations. Initially, I hoped to offer this as a free update, but like all game development, it has proven more complex than anticipated. To ensure the quality you expect, we may need to release this as a paid DLC. If it moves forward, we are aiming for late this year or early next year.
Boss Rush Mode(TBD)
Based on a great suggestion from the Korean community regarding end-game content, we are planning a Boss Rush mode. We are looking at this positively as a way to enhance the end-game experience. Detailed plans are still in the works, so if you have any ideas regarding this, please feel free to share them. We hope to provide this as a free update, but depending on the workload, it may be bundled with the Roguelite content.
These are the updates I wanted to share with you today. While our team's current situation and development environment are challenging, game development is ultimately about chasing dreams. As we have always done, if you give us time, we will do our absolute best as indie developers to turn those dreams into reality. Finally, if you wish to support our dream and the future of Legendary Tales or if you simply want to buy the team a cup of coffee, you can support us via Patreon (

). We have had this page for years but have never officially promoted it because I believe developers should prove themselves through their games. Given our current situation, I am reaching out with courage and hope for your understanding. We will be immersing ourselves in development and research for these promised features, so please understand if we are a bit quiet for a while. As always, we will return with great results. Thank you for always being with us.
Warm Regards, BJ
