Multiplayer

Duels

You can now challenge other players to duels in the designated arenas! All arenas are currently located in the Boglink Shrine. Health and ammunition lost during duels is refunded when the duel is over!

Co-Op Feature for Boss Fights

You can now join a party member’s ongoing boss fight at any time! During boss fights you no longer fall out of the boss-room if other players are still standing, instead you get to spectate until everyone falls or the boss is defeated. Either everyone who got knocked out and are spectating get credit for defeating the boss, or everyone falls together! With strangers you can choose to give up...

Misc

  • If other players are rollbacked, they will smoothly slide into position instead of “popping”.

  • A “wizard” has been added to make it easier to select the appropriate online setting when first starting the game.

  • You can now invite anyone to join your party simply by sending an invite on discord, removing the need for adding friends on Steam in order to play in a party.

Story

New Levels and Bosses

After making it past the Famished Fortress, you will enter the delapitated ruins of Throne, a once great civilization - now swarming with fashionable bandits! Will you find the way to the Phantom Tower and face your greatest fears? In the two expansive new levels you will find three unique new bosses to challenge, and a Smoking Hot Babe to reach!

New Quests and Writing

Multiple new questlines have been added, and the existing ones have been fleshed out and completed. We have strived hard to make quests feel more rewarding as well as entertaining! Items (including new weapons) have been added as rewards for completing the quests.

  • Missing and incomplete item descriptions and dialogues have been examined, adjusted, updated and fixed. You can learn a lot about the world of The Heights if you are interested!

  • All in-game text has been translated to Polish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean, thanks to our beloved Tyt00s (Polish), and Universally Speaking. Note that a couple of last-minute line changes (mostly in curse descriptions) occurred, and some minor issues have been found, so we will update the translations soon to be 100% accurate to the source English.

Cinematics

There is a cinematic when launching the game, as well as when you’re done creating your character. These give a bit of background information about the world, and your impending adventure… There is also a cutscene at the end, and a few other places!

Items and Equipment

  • Weapons that shoot arrows and bolts, but also Guns which shoot slug shells have been added. You’ll have to search well to find the guns, for they are a darkly magickal type of armament!

  • The archer starting inclination; “Stringent”, has been added. Equipped with a bow you can now keep your enemies at a more comfortable distance!

  • Multiple new weapons have been added not just in the ranged category, both as rewards in new questlines and as pickups and drops from enemies, likewise for armour/equipment.

  • By entering the unholy sarcophagus you can save an image of your equipped armour and weapons as a “Custom Starter Class”, to be selected when starting a new game.

  • Emotes have been added! There are special Emoian statues to find, allowing you to trade your Emoian pins for different gestures.

  • Trading has been significantly rebalanced. Armor prices have been increased, while materials have been reduced in price.

  • You can now equip Hats on all helmets/headgear!

Visuals

  • The technical solution for character rendering has been completely reworked, enabling characters to be sharper and work well with shadows and the surrounding environment, while still not clipping with the background!

  • All areas have gotten iteration on lighting and the game is generally more colourful than it was before. Some areas have also received more extensive re-working, such as Ronny’s pub and Boglink Shrine.

Challenges & Achievements

Curses

We have added 25 Unlockable Curses that significantly alter the gameplay and challenges you face! Since multiplayer is still enabled while cursed, they are generally focused on changing the behaviour of your own character and items. Modifiers from the original Jump King are present such as "ice", "wind" and "boots" - but there are also fun new mechanics such as permanent death!

  • There’s a new points-system which is shared between all your saves. Crowns to wear and titles that change the colour of your in game name can be unlocked as you play more and collect points, but you have to beat the game to access the crowns!

  • There are many new challenging achievements, as well as a unique icon for each one!

UI

We’ve reworked almost all of the menus! A lot of effort has been put into improving the stability, look, feel and communication of the UI. In addition to the HUD, the following menus have been updated:

  • Main menu

  • Level up menu

  • Upgrade menu

  • Inventory

  • Shop

  • Settings

  • Online tab

  • Quest tab

Inventory

  • The category tabs have been condensed to make all categories visible at all times.

  • The list has been condensed to display more items at once. There are now unique icons for all items, including weapons, equipment and even for each individual upgrade materials. The list loads gradually, reducing lag when opening the inventory.

  • “By usage” has replaced the previous default sorting. Usage is determined by how often you’ve interacted with the items, making your favorite items easier to find. New items are placed at the top regardless of sorting mode, and the tabs with new items have a marker to make them easier to find.

  • The character and item information pages have received a visual overhaul. Damage scaling, description and special moves are displayed by default on the item page.

Quest Tab

  • The handbook page has replaced the old library in Boglink Shrine. It provides information about different mechanics, aimed at new players. New handbook entries are unlocked as you progress through the game and talk to Brambleon in the library.

  • A new stats page has been added, allowing you to keep track of your progress and read interesting information unique to your current playthrough - such as your favorite area, how many hotdogs you’ve eaten and more!

  • There’s a tab dedicated to keeping track of bosses, displaying how many attempts you’ve made on each boss and if you’ve missed any secret bosses.

HUD

Elements have been moved to make the bottom-left corner less cluttered. Additionally, the health and shield bars now scale based on your stats. Next to the Hotdog you can see the new Quick-Item Menu.

Quick Item

To make consumables easier to use, a quick item system has been implemented. Simply add any item to your pocket, and you are able to use it without opening the inventory!

Combat & RPG System

  • You can now tilt your weapon as you strike! This is crucial for ranged weapons, but you can do it with almost all attacks!

  • All weapons have received balancing, including adjustments and improvement of animations to feel better and perform as intended in both PvE and PvP.

  • The shield system has been revised to make combat more interesting. While equipping the shield you take 30% less stance damage, but the attacker will not suffer recoil.

  • Removed calibration (made it automatic), since it didn’t make the game more interesting in any meaningful way.

  • Refined damage types and resistances from 10 to five different categories. The types are now: Hit, Slash, Stab, Ballistic and Magick.

  • You character now has a weight stat which affects your movement and combat speed. Want to be slow and tanky, or limber and squishy? Individual items have different weight values, tied to the strength of its stats. Heavy shields have stronger durability, while light shields are specialized for parrying.

  • We made the shield surfing way more cracked! Shield surf by pressing down while landing, and do kickflips by jumping while you slide! You can even jump on slopes!

Star Smithing

The star level, which boosts one of a weapon’s attributes, and was previously only obtainable by chance on drop (or pick-up), can now be improved (with luck) all the way up to Star Level three! But to do so, you must first help Armould the One Armed Armourer find his three lucky coals!

New Consumables

Cigarettes, Cigars and Coffee with Sugar have been added as new consumables that give special temporary bonuses. These are essential items for the average mudman! Be sure to stock up when you get the chance, and use when the going gets tough!

Did you catch all that?

I trust you'll figure out the rest on your own, cousin...
