He could not bring himself to tell the friend who had saved the Boneyard that, when her music rang out during the Tide Sending Ceremony, a thought quietly began to spread through his mind:

What if... just what if, his sister had accepted that invitation all those years ago?

If she had become the Witness to that Tide Sending Ceremony, would everything have turned out differently?

The thought startled even himself.

As though something deep within him had been stirred awake, a long-buried memory suddenly rose from the recesses of his mind.

Ever since, at each Tide Sending Ceremony, those most gifted in sensing souls have been chosen to wear this outfit and perform the ritual's climactic melody.
