Update #25 - Multiplayer

I announced it earlier, and now it is finally here: multiplayer has arrived! I honestly could not wait to be done working on it… This update significantly changes the game, so some things may be broken.

I announced it earlier, and now it is finally here: multiplayer has arrived! I honestly could not wait to be done working on it…

This update significantly changes the game, so some things may be broken. I did my best to test everything before releasing the multiplayer version, but please do not hesitate to report any issues you encounter on Discord.

How to play multiplayer

From the main menu (as long as you own the game, multiplayer is not available in the demo), click on the “Multiplayer” button located just above the “Play” button.

You will then have two options:

  • Host a lobby

  • Join a lobby

Hosting a game

The host simply needs to share their code.

Warning: this code contains your IP address. Only share it with people you trust.

Joining a game

To join a lobby:

  • Copy the host’s code

  • Paste it into the input field

  • Click “Join”

The game will attempt to connect you to the host. If the connection is successful:

  • The multiplayer menu will close

  • The “Multiplayer” button will become a disconnect button

  • You will see the cursors of other players in the lobby

The main menu is synchronized so you can get a preview of how it works.

I made sure the game runs properly with 4 players, but I didn’t set any limit. I believe the theoretical limit is 100 players. Use at your own risk, lol.

Starting the game

The host can then start a game of their choice. Maybe a private game just with you ?

The game will synchronize as best as possible. Everything is handmade, so some errors may occur.

Important notes:

  • All player actions must be validated by the host (small anti-cheat system)

  • The host then sends those actions to the other players

  • The host must keep the game in the foreground If the game runs in the background, other players will become desynchronized until the host brings the game window back to the foreground

It is strongly recommended that the player with the best internet connection and the best computer acts as the host.

Important note about crafting

The crafting menu only works for the host.

This requires a complete rework of the crafting system from scratch. In the meantime, only the host can use the crafting menu. I made this choice in order to release the multiplayer mode faster.

Other changes (outside multiplayer)

  • The save system for decorative elements has been modified ; your save may no longer work. If it does work, it is recommended to move and then place your decorative elements again to avoid any issues.

  • A broken machine can no longer be moved until it is repaired

  • Fixed a missing easter eggs issue on the main menu

  • Updated the formulas related to injectors: each time an ingot is struck, the next lightning strike will increase its value slightly less (up to 10 times, reaching 3× the injector’s multiplicative value)

  • Employees no longer visually enlarge when the cruiser gets closer to them (this caused issues in multiplayer, so for now, the feature has been completely removed)
