changed1 – Attachment System → Gone 😅I know – since the very beginning of this project, I kept saying that weapons would have attachments. But I realized something important: creating attachments for multiple weapon types is extremely time-consuming. It would exceed both my scope and the amount of development time I can dedicate to this project. So, the attachment system has been completely scrapped.

Hunkfrat Development Update – Expanded Weaponry & New Features!

Hello people!

It’s been a while since the last update, and I’ve been working hard to expand the game’s capabilities. Here’s what’s new:

1 – Attachment System → Gone 😅

I know – since the very beginning of this project, I kept saying that weapons would have attachments. But I realized something important: creating attachments for multiple weapon types is extremely time-consuming. It would exceed both my scope and the amount of development time I can dedicate to this project. So, the attachment system has been completely scrapped.

But don’t worry — I’m pretty sure the following additions will cheer you up!

2 – Three New Weapons Added (Again!)

Since attachments are no longer a thing, the game needed more content to stay engaging. So I added three new weapons:

  • Sniper Rifle – Perfect for distant battles and highly precise.

  • SMG – Light yet dangerous; a great bridge between pistols and rifles.

  • Deagle – A classic hand cannon.

With these additions, the game now features 7 different weapons, which I believe is plenty for the scale of this project. But as always, feel free to share your ideas in our Discord server!

3 – Weapon Wheel

With more weapons added, the old weapon-switching method became obsolete. That’s why I implemented a Weapon Wheel! Thanks to this new system, switching weapons is now as easy as holding a single key.

4 – New Shop System

A new shop actor has been added to the home level. Players can now purchase ammunition and medkits using money. They can also unlock new weapons throughout the campaign levels. And yes — with this update, all weapons except the Glock pistol and the knife are now locked until unlocked through progression.

5 – Miscellaneous Improvements

Here are the other adjustments made since the last update:

  • Ammo logic has been redesigned and scaled to properly support every weapon and ammo type using precise mapped variables.

  • Several buggy areas in the first level that allowed players to exit the play zone have been fixed.

  • Multiple changes have been made to the save system for better multi-level compatibility.

  • Added a new variable to the weapon system that saves the magazine ammo of each weapon individually.

  • The quest system has been simplified and made more suitable for a linear game.

  • The Tab Menu has also been scrapped, as it’s no longer necessary.

6 – What’s Next?

In the upcoming phases, I’ll be focusing on:

  • Adding the remaining campaign levels.

  • Implementing the full storyline with Max Payne-style comic cutscenes.

  • Polishing the gameplay to make the core experience more satisfying.

  • Updating the Steam page to match the game’s new look.

  • Releasing a renewed version of the previous (and admittedly disastrous 😅) demo — now with more content and a better experience.

If you'd like to see:

  • How the newly added weapons look,

  • How the Weapon Wheel works,

  • And how the new shop system adds variation to the gameplay,

Thanks for reading and supporting the project, it truly means a lot to me 😇 If you haven’t already, don’t forget to add Hunkfrat to your Steam wishlist and join our Discord community for future updates and sneak peeks.

Stay tuned, more is on the way!
