Home Wars changes
Hoping you'll enjoy it, I'm sharing the news just released about my new co-op multiplayer FPS game "Home Wars: Battlefield" in development (ADD it to your WISHLIST):
"Guys, as you may have read in the title, I have a gameplay problem in naval warfare.
Let's see if we can solve it together.
First of all, the most important faction in the game, obviously, is the toy soldiers, so it serves as a sort of reference for the roles of the other two.
Here comes the problem: human warfare needs are not reflected in the biology of this planet... let me explain.
What's the problem?
Most of the military units of our armed forces, namely navies, move on the surface of the water, namely boats and ships of various kinds.
There are also some units that operate under the surface of the water, such as submarines, but they are far fewer.
In biology, the vast majority of present and ancient life forms move underwater, not above the surface.
So here comes the problem: who are the toy soldiers' ships fighting against if almost all the enemies are underwater?
Of course, you can stage huge naval battles if you pit toy soldiers against toy soldiers or have insects fight dinosaurs.
However, when a naval battle between toy soldiers and insects/dinosaurs unfolds, the toy soldiers find that almost all enemy targets are underwater, so torpedoes, harpoons, and depth charges are fine, but are cannons, heavy machine guns, and anti-ship missiles useless?
I'm making "biological modifications" to achieve satisfying gameplay, but this compromises the pseudo-realism.
For example, I'm thinking of making both jellyfish and crabs swim so that about half of their bodies are exposed above the water.
Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, I'm arming certain ships with turrets under the hull, equipped with harpoons, because otherwise even the most imposing battleship would be cannon fodder against a mere shrimp.
Another system could create a range, for example, from the surface of the water to 5 meters below, which counts as a surface, meaning weapons like cannons, machine guns, and missiles can hit targets submerged a few meters below.
Consequently, the barrier for bullets and bombs won't be on the surface of the water, but, for example, 5 meters below its surface.
It makes sense, but perhaps it further undermines realism.
This problem actually has a positive side.
It arose because the game is truly vast! It's basically possible to fight simultaneously on all fronts: land, air, water, and underwater, something extremely rare in video games.
Incidentally, this is one of the reasons I'm tearing my hair out, but that's my problem :D
Do you understand the problem?
What would you do in my place?
What do you think is fun?
This is the perfect time to create the gameplay you like best, go ahead, gentlemen!
THE ONLY GOOD BUG IS AN EMERGED BUG!"
