Today, we’re excited to share our upcoming development roadmap for"KAKUREONI"!

First of all, thank you so much for all the feedback from our playtests and Closed Beta.

We went through everything and had a lot of discussions as a team.

Of course, we’ll continue improving controls and adding more strategic depth—but more than anything, we realized something important:

👉We want you to truly feel Japanese horror.

So, our theme moving forward is:

“Deepening the World”

This isn’t just a simple hide-and-seek game.

We want you to:

・Feel what the characters are feeling

・Experience the fear of being chased by the Oni

・Feel the drive to capture every last survivor as the Oni

・Celebrate survival and feel the sting of defeat

・And begin to wonder: “Why are we here?” as you explore the world

To bring all of this to life,

we’ve put together a 16-step roadmap.

We’ll be introducing each step one by one—stay tuned!

🏃 KAKUREONI” Update Roadmap (16 Steps)

👹 Task 1: Add a Tutorial

  • At first, we considered keeping the tutorial simple… but we decided to go further and create a sequence fully integrated into the game’s world and story.

👹 Task 2: Localization (JP/EN)

  • During CBT1, we received more playtest applications from Western regions than expected.

So we’ve decided to move up our English language support earlier than planned.

👹 Task 3: Add an Opening Sequence

  • We’re adding intro sequences for both the Hiders (Human) and the Oni,

so players can better understand their situation and get a feel for the map before the game begins.

👹 Task 4: Implement the Oni Lottery

  • Previously, roles were assigned instantly at the start with no presentation.

Now we’ve added a fun reveal system: Oni Lottery!

“Let me be the Oni… come on… Oni!!”

👹 Task 5: Expand Oni Flow (Mask Selection)

  • We’re adding a new feature where Oni players can choose their Oni (mask).

This gives Oni players a similar sense of choice and fun as Hiders selecting snacks.

👹 Task 6: Add CPU Players

  • One of the most requested features during CBT!

CPU characters can now move around the map on their own.

This means you can enjoy the game even solo— no need to wait for matchmaking!

👹 Task 7: Ghost Update

  • Ghosts are no longer just there to scare or interfere.

We’ve expanded their variety so they can create different situations each match.

They now play a meaningful role in level design—not just fear or annoyance.

👹 Task 8: Results Screen Update

  • We’re updating the results screen to make it something you’ll want to screenshot and share! We’re adding features like:

    • Item collection connections

    • Matching poses

    • A fun post-game hangout vibe

    ...and etc!

👹 Task 9: Oni Animation Update

  • We’re improving Oni animations to enhance:

    • The fear of being chased

    • The pressure when facing an Oni

Expect more impactful movement and actions.

👹 Task 10: Capture on Contact

  • Previously, Oni had to lock onto a player for a short time to capture them.

That system will remain, but now:

👉Direct physical contact (hands/feet) can also capture players.

👹 Task 11: Expand Oni Abilities (Door Destruction)

  • Door destruction is just one example—

we’re enhancing the Oni’s overall abilities.

    Our goal:

    • Playing as Oni feels powerful and satisfying

    • Facing the Oni feels terrifying:

“There’s no way we can beat this…”

👹 Task 12: Add New Oni

  • As mentioned earlier, Oni players will be able to choose from multiple Oni.

We’re currently working on the second Oni, and plan to add more to expand strategic variety.

👹 Task 13: Improve Character Visual Quality

  • We want players to grow attached to each character. We’re improving:

    • Equipment items

    • Character design

    • Shaders and visuals

👹 Task 14: Improve Oni Visual Quality

  • Our goal here is simple:

    👉 More realism. More fear.

👹 Task 15: Add Exit Sequence

  • Even small details matter— we’re adding a sequence when exiting the game.

👹 Task 16: Character Customization

  • We’re implementing customization features such as:

    • Decorations shown in results

    • Accessories for characters

    • Shop systems to unlock items

You may even uncover parts of the characters’ past…

With this update, our goal isn’t just to “add more content,”

but to deepen the overall experience.

The game is still in development,

but we’ll continue improving it step by step so more players can enjoy it.

We’ll also keep sharing progress updates on these 16 steps—stay tuned!
