A major update has just been pushed to Steam for OSX and Windows, and should be available shortly. This update focuses on cleaning up the progression system, reducing the amount of time spent in menus, and reducing character stat bloat. If you haven't tried the game in a while, this is probably a good place to jump in! As always, feedback is greatly appreciated.

Progression Changes:

  • The "Level Complete" screen has been removed entirely. Transitions between levels in the same world now happen as soon as the player reaches the exit Monsters and treasures chests no longer directly reward experience or score

  • Upon killing the boss of a world and exiting the arena, a new "World Complete" screen will appear

  • The "World Complete" screen now gives you a grade, representing an evaluation of your overall skill in completing the levels in that world

  • Grades range from "F" to "S".

  • Your grade is determined by the number of levels in which you beat the par time, the number in which you do not take damage, and the total treasure you have discovered

  • Grades confer bonus experience and score, with the "S" rank awarding a massive boost

  • The "Level Up" screen now appears after "World Complete"

  • The amount of experience required to purchase stat upgrades has increased substantially

  • Purchasing traits continues to function as it did prior to this update

  • The Dark World continues to award progression in the same way it did before

Balance Changes:

  • Monster health has been reduced by 25-40% to account for player stats being lowered

  • The Angel heals for less and no longer shields enemies

  • The Bat's attack power has been reduced to 2

  • The Slime Queen levels up more slowly when drawing magic from Slime Royals

  • Spells gain potency or effectiveness with each individual point spent in Magic now, in order to reduce confusion

Gameplay/UI Changes:

  • Upon completing a stage, the camera will rapidly fade out, starting from the farthest area away from the player. When the next stage loads, this effect will reverse. This makes it substantially easier to tell where the player is when starting a new stage

  • The Slime Queen's Revenge and The Fairy Queen's Domain have been enabled under certain conditions

  • An animation has been added to indicate an invalid move

  • Character and enemy movement animations will appear more smooth during frame drops

  • Characters and enemies will not display negative health values while dying

  • Floating combat text will no longer render for uninteresting events

  • A new "Ambush!" text appears when certain enemies attack the player

  • Sound effects have been added to more actions

  • Some screens have had their text reduced

  • The tutorial has been updated to match the new game systems

  • The Dark World's access requirements have been made slightly easier

  • New entries have been added to the Codex

  • The Slime Queen should no longer litter

  • Storm of Greed now appears in 5% of stages

  • Storm of Darkness now appears in 5% of stages

  • Storm of Bones now appears in 5% of stages

  • All magical storms can activate in boss fights

  • Enemies under the effect of Time Stop will be revealed regardless of light during a Storm of Darkness

Unlocks:

  • Complete the game once unlocks: Wizard, Magical Storms, Additional Bosses

  • Complete the game as Wizard unlocks: A Temporal Distortion, Berserker
