Repeated intro
Hey everyone, update time
January's been slowing going. I had two separate game-breakers I spent time fixing, but they did get resolved. For February, I'm working more on the enemies. Specifically, I'm working on getting one of the opposing heroes fully functional, top to bottom, AI through special abilities. This is a good time to go into how the enemies will work (at this point; all of this is subject to change if it sucks).
First some background
Each region has a few different things in it. 1) A starting place where you'll rebuild the city, 2) enemy outposts that have portals (spawn points) 3) the enemy stronghold (their main base), and 4) dungeons, buildings and other places to find resources, loot, and captured townspeople. There are two types of friendly NPC's, Common and Heroes. Common NPC's are your resource gatherers and generic military NPC's. Heroes are unique NPC's that you rescue throughout the game and reside in your main castle. At any given time, you can have 4 Heroes accompany you whereever you go. Conversely, there are two types of enemies, Common and Dark Champions. Common enemies are found in dungeons, and they spawn at outposts. They vary between ranged and melee, and some have preferred targets, like buildings or gatherers. Dark Champions are unique enemies who each guard an outpost. Dark Champions have a range of abilities, and will do more than just attack until they die. They will retreat to the outpost if their health is low, and stage strategic attacks against the city accompanied by Common enemies. Killing a Dark Champion will allow the player to destroy its portal, weakening the enemy presence in the area, and provide the player an area to build an outlying town. The first area will have anywhere from 3-5 Dark Champions defending it. The other thing I'm working on is traps. I've got two types I'm looking at - castle defense traps and individual traps. Castle defense traps are ones like explosive barrels hidden where enemies might attack from. Individual traps are ones like a tripwire that you can set by hand, or by firing it from your crossbow into a distant wall. So, since you've made it this far, tell me, what kind of traps would you like to see in HOI? Michael
