HEART ABYSS changes
The HEART ABYSS team is back! While Leon continues his journey toward finding his sister, we're busy building the world around him. Today we'd like to show off an updated look at the Capital, some improved enemies, and one particularly unpleasant foe waiting further down the road.
The Capital grows brighter
The Capital, which we covered in a previous devlog (ссылка на пост), continues to evolve. More and more placeholder assets are being replaced with unique visuals, and the city is steadily becoming the vibrant center of the Empire we always imagined.
Here are a fresh environment shot and new artwork created specifically for the Capital. In contrast to the dark Mines and the grim Temple, this location is shaping up to be one of the most memorable areas in the game.
The streets are getting crowded
What kind of metropolis would it be without its inhabitants? The Capital is gradually filling with residents. Among them you'll encounter both familiar figures from Japanese folklore and our own interpretations of mythical creatures: kappas, tanuki, long-necked geisha spirits, and many others.
Each of them will find their place on the city's streets — and perhaps in Leon's story as well.
The musicians you'll learn to hate
Leon’s journey toward his sister would be a pleasant stroll through the Capital if not for the endless enemies standing in his way. And somehow, those enemies keep finding new ways to make his life harder.
Remember the Biwa-hōshi support enemies? The ones who played their shamisen to make Leon's foes invulnerable? Well, now these irritating musicians can float above the battlefield. What else would you expect from demonic servants?
Their updated design was inspired by traditional Japanese woodblock prints depicting spirits and demons drifting through the sky atop clouds.
There's more beyond the Capital
Work on later parts of the adventure continues, and new levels are steadily taking shape. One of them is the Factory — the industrial heart of the Empire.
The Factory will challenge Leon with narrow production corridors, dangerous machinery, and brand-new enemies. The level is still deep in development, but its overall shape is already beginning to emerge.
New enemies enter the fray
Sooner or later, Leon will come face to face with a new opponent: the Samurai. We spent a long time refining his design, searching for a look that felt unmistakably Japanese while also carrying a sense of menace and something distinctly otherworldly.
Armed with two katanas, this samurai moves way faster than his heavy armor suggests. See him too late, and you're done for. Luckily, you'll probably kick the bucket way before you even manage to reach him.
For now, we return to development to forge some fresh new content. Meanwhile, feel free to feed the comment section with your hype, leave a like, and spread the word to your friends.
With love,
The HEART ABYSS Team
