Setting foot in GreedFall: The Dying World for the first time can feel both exciting and overwhelming. A new land with political tensions, mysterious creatures, and countless choices await you.

This guide is here to help you begin your adventure the right way, with some practical tips to shape your journey, avoid early mistakes, and fully embrace everything the game has to offer.

1- Select your player

Like a true RPG, your journey begins with creating your own character. Take your time here as this is more than just appearance.

You’ll first customize your character physically, tailoring the look that will represent you throughout the story. Once that’s done, you’ll distribute Attribute and Talent points, then choose your starting Skill Tree.

  • Attributes directly impact your combat effectiveness. They modify your core stats influencing how hard you hit, how well you endure damage, or how efficiently you use certain equipment. One of them is Focus, and as it’s the one that gives you action points during combat, we advise you not to overlook it if you plan to battle your way through the game.

  • Talents, on the other hand, determine how you interact with the world. They unlock new dialogue options, accesses to hidden paths, crafting opportunities, and more.

  • Skill Trees will give you access to your specific skills in combat and will define how you play there. From being a support healer or a ranged hunter, we give you many options to choose from.

So before confirming your choices, read carefully what each option brings to the table and contemplate how you want to apprehend the story and world. A diplomatic explorer, a shadowy tactician, or a frontline warrior will experience the same world… very differently.

Of course, as you advance in your journey, each additional level will let you distribute additional points in your Attributes or Talents, and you will have the opportunity to learn new Skill Trees too. And if you ever fancy a complete makeover, you will be able to use an item to respec in your camp or on your ship.

2- There’s always more than one way

Once your character is done and you start your journey, remember this: quests rarely have a single solution.

Take the time to:

  • Explore your surroundings

  • Speak to different NPCs

  • Weigh moral and political consequences

Sometimes brute force works, but sometimes persuasion, stealth, or alliances open better outcomes. The way you decide to build and play your character, and the decisions you make truly matter.

3- Manage your companions wisely

As you progress, you’ll encounter iconic companions, each with their own background, skill trees, loyalties, and personality.

They aren’t just combat support or potential romance options, they can also:

  • Provide unique insight during conversations

  • Unlock alternative approaches to certain quests

Their presence can ease or complicate delicate situations. Keep in mind that, if they strongly disagree with your decisions, they may distance themselves from you… or even leave your squad entirely. Building trust with them can be just as important as sharpening their combat blade, so make sure to get to know them and they can contribute to your quest.

In the overworld, you can freely split your party to place your companions strategically in the environment, which can be especially useful before ambushing your enemy, or for exploration and environmental puzzles.

4- Use your tracking vision

While exploring, don’t forget your tracking vision. This ability
