Gordian Rooms 2: A curious island changes
Since we released Gordian Rooms 2 in January 2024, we've been reading your feedback and incorporating it into the game, hence the 9 patches so far.
In this 10th update, we've implemented practically all of the remaining features and changes you've requested since the game's release, to the best of our ability.
This is our biggest update. If you played a while ago, now is a great time to revisit for the performance improvements and quality-of-life features we've added.
So, without further ado:
New Features
Added Focus mode, a new interaction method that freezes the current view and lets you control puzzles with just the cursor or thumbstick.
You can also adjust the sensitivity of this view mode separately.
Added an option to hide no longer useful items. This is a toggleable option, on by default, which makes the inventory less cluttered. It hides not only objects but documents as well so you can focus on the actual tasks at hand.
Objects and documents of the same type are now grouped together in the inventory, making it easier to see what you have and how many of each type there are.
Added status indicators for the player, signalling, running, crouching and focusing.
Added a brightness and saturation setting to the options menu. This enables players to fine tune how the game looks on their own monitors, TVs.
Added an Inspection mode to the Object and Documents in your Inventory. This allows you to take a closer look at the selected item and in case of documents changes the font and makes the page easier to read.
Added an option to change the center dot size and made it easier to see.
The game now supports Playstation controllers as well.
Fixes and improvements
We improved the performance of the game considerably!
So much so that now the default graphics setting is Medium.
Added a small highlight effect to the Objectives panel so it is easier to spot where you can click.
Increased the resolution of the item view mode making everything a lot crisper.
The Soup of the Decade can no longer be complete without adding some salt!
Fixed numerous fade to black events in the game, either by omitting them or by making them shorter.
Fixed some inconsistencies in the lighting and brightness of certain objects.
Fixed the skewed angle of the strange drawing item.
Increased the size of the servant’s special cleaning symbols.
Fixed the display bug that occurred when codewheels were scrolled upwards.
Scaled up and added more contrast to the billiard table diagrams in the leisure room.
Added an extra clue to the library door riddle.
The painting describing ship parts has been recolored to make it easier to understand.
Added an extra light to the back of the horseshoe slot machine to make something easier to spot.
Upgraded the Amelia’s mask puzzle graph so that only one solution is possible.
Fixed the alignment of the sketch cards when placed into their slots.
Remade the plumbing plan in the Greenhouse. This is only a graphical upgrade; the logic hasn't been changed.
We also added a portable version of the plumbing plan.
Added a better letter indicator to the garden water wheels.
Changed how the billiard balls are displayed in the inventory to make it easier to see the symbols on them.
Added a fitting display case to the three clues spread around for Amelia’s wardrobe.
Updated the game’s engine to a newer version, Unreal Engine 5.6.
Reduced the size of some humongous napkins.
Normalized the volume of the gramophone tracks and made it so that the music of the game stops while listening to them and upon completion continues automatically.
Upgraded the look of the chess wall puzzle in the library, added some row and column indicators and recolored it too.
Additionally we adjusted the puzzle so that it accepts two different solutions.
Changed crouching and sprinting to remain toggled when activated by default.
Added extra comments to indicate when the player has every piece of a puzzle or collectible set to make progression easier to track.
Adjusted the volume of the grandfather clock’s ticking so that it is no longer audible from the other side of the mansion .
Adjusted the volume of the fireplace so that it could be heard from a little farther away.
Added an extra red light to indicate when the light sequence is finished at the barrel puzzle.
Fine tuned how the highlight system works.
You can now reach the Objectives, Inventory and Journal directly by pressing a reconfigurable button.
Made it so that it is much easier to get the ball over ledges.
Enlarged the Admiral’s croquet puzzle pieces scattered in the garden to make them slightly easier to spot.
Reworked how the hint panel looks.
We made a new default controller layout that we feel is more intuitive, however you can always change what each button does in the Controls menu.
Added specific icons for the console control scheme.
Achievements are now sorted in 3 columns instead of 2.
Adjusted the Shell Puzzle so that only a single solution can make sense.
Made numerous small corrections to the localization across all languages.
We hope that from now on everyone can really enjoy the game to its fullest potential :)
Have fun and happy holidays! Crimsonite Team
