Changes in This Beta

We shared major changes from the alpha version in the beta announcement post. If you were part of the Core Group Test, you’ll find various improvements and adjustments based on your feedback! Below are just a few of them, but make sure you check out how different things feel by hopping in right now!

  • Quality-of-life improvements

    • Split the Inventory UI into two columns: items around you and items in your possession

    • Added volume adjustment in the Settings

    • Adjusted keybindings for easier controls

      • Lifting objects is now with the mouse wheel click, but you no longer need to hold the button down

      • Alternate attack has been reassigned to right-click; the character now faces the camera’s viewing direction all the time while walking

      • Shoving and shaking off zombies now share the same control: left-click

    • Added system messages for more events, like weapons becoming dull

    • Changed so that the aiming reticle only shows when facing an interactable object or a zombie

  • Balance changes

    • Adjusted the zombie population

    • Adjusted the rate of HP loss from hunger and thirst

    • Changed so that zombie grasps prevent sprinting

    • Adjusted the rate of pottage evaporating and burning

  • Bug fixes

    • Reduced jitter when being in close contact with zombies

    • Fixed issues where audio cues were muted/incorrect

    • Addressed untranslated text

Known Issues in This Beta

We are aware of the following issues in the current beta and are working on fixes!

  • In rare cases, the game may crash when pressing "Start Game" in the title screen

  • Some objects can be interacted with but not moved/disassembled

  • Some zombies may be spawned below ground level

We can’t say that we aren’t nervous at all. However, we strongly believe this beta will be a great chance for us to lock in the course of the game before we move full speed ahead for the Early Access launch.
