Gladiatorum: Sacramentum changes
From the very beginning, the vision behind Gladiatorum: Sacramentum has been to make gladiators more than just a spreadsheet of numbers. As the designer, I always wanted gladiators to be more than stats and players to feel a deep connection to their growth and progression, making them truly feel like unique individuals.
33 Attributes, Split into 3 Categories
Every gladiator is defined by a system of 33 specific attributes across Technical, Physical, and Mental categories. Each attribute plays a role in combat and develops daily through training. But simple linear progression felt too shallow.
Classes and Fighting Styles
To add more strategy, we designed classes and fighting styles. Each class has 6 key and 6 secondary attributes that weigh more heavily in combat and receive a boost during training. A slave who looks unimpressive at first might become your next legendary Retiarius, provided you have the right equipment to train him.
More Than Numbers: Human Elements
Gladiators, even as slaves, were complex individuals. We’ve integrated crucial human layers: Morale, Condition, Loyalty, and Motivation. Each influences not just combat performance but also daily life in your ludus.

Backstories That Shape the Arena
Our ambition is for every gladiator to come with a unique backstory. These histories can be unlocked over time, as you improve your gladiator’s loyalty, potentially triggering events with unexpected consequences. We’ll explore this in a future devlog.
A Team Effort
This intricate system, from attributes to backstories, is still in active development. A huge thanks to our talented developer, who translates these deep mechanics into code, and our visual designer, who ensures it all comes together in a clear and compelling way.
We’d love your thoughts on this vision for gladiators. Does the mix of stats, morale, loyalty, condition and story make sense to you?
