Heyoooooooo Temple Guardians, Peony's treehouse climbers and quirky dice enjoyers!!!!

Today we want to shed some light on Dice Quirks! Whether you're into that kind of stuff (we don't judge) or not, you totally shouldn't sleep on this mechanic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, what exactly are Quirks? Why they're traits that influence your dice of course! Want to strengthen your Gimmicks, tinker with synergies, or just inject straight zaniness into your run? Make your dice completely and utterly unusable in a funny way simply to farm likes on twitter!?!? Look no further, Quirks will get you mad retweets. And I guess they’re good when playing the game, too.

If you played the demo (and if you didn't, what’s wrong with you!?!?!? go play it now!!!!!!), you probably have encountered them already from dice you’ve bought at STERLING CUSTOMS.

Besides buying dice with Quirks already applied, these modifiers can also be obtained separately at a certain bushido-toutin’ son-of-a-gun’s homestead.

Meet Peony, the most powerful, and seemingly only, onmyoji cowboy in all of Japan!

You can stumble upon PEONY'S TREEHOUSE during your runs. Here you can buy quirks and apply them to your die of choice!

But this is not the only way to get Quirks! There’s some Pests capable of applying, removing and shuffling Quirks, and there’s a couple other places where you can mess around with this stuff. But we’re not spoiling ‘em. Actually nevermind, check this out.

Okay, enough with the chitchat, let's get to the main course AND SEE SOME ACTION!!!!!

There’s 110+ different Quirks for you to play around with in the full game, so the possibilities count is getting close to a scary amount of digits.

To really make you understand the possibilities at play here when mixing together Quirks, Gimmicks, and Mods, let’s walk through the creation of some builds together!

Over here!!!! Over here!!!!!

Let's start nice and easy, meet the Attentive Quirk: Steam post imageWhenever we stomp our die, all Gimmicks will turn towards it. Interesting!! Let's get a bunch of bullets going then, we'll be using Carpe Diem, but feel free to pick any other similar Gimmick of your choice. Steam post imageThis looks great already, still missing some kind of spice, let's add Goose Egg Quirk:

Steam post imageEvery time our die lands, it'll trigger all quirks that activate when we stomp it. SO every time we throw our die, all the bullets we cast previously will turn back to face it, even ones that left the arena! No stomping needed!

The main ingredients are prepared, now let's have some fun and add a few Mods to the mix:

Now our bullets last longer and hit their targets better and will make them linger around enemies a bit more. Oh, and make more bullets, of course!!!!!!!

To use our combo even more effectively, instead of trying to throw our die at enemies from afar, since that's a little hard to gauge... let's dunk it directly on their heads! You do this by throwing your die while in the air. If we dunk our dice, all the bullets will be redirected straight at the unlucky enemies beneath!!!

Now to the final touches:

These will make sure that your die will be available at all times, the more Extra Icy mods you use, the faster the cooling happens!!

And now let's see the tasty results!!

Growing Strength

But what if I HATE Gimmicks, huh? What if I wanna focus on smacking enemies around, HUH?? Well, look no further, pick Zo as a character and let's start building!

Starting with Poophouse Quirk:

Immediately an extra 60% STR boost since we're playing as Zo!! Not bad!!

Now let's make a constant STR income with Cellular Quirk:

This is great, but let's make it snowball even more over time:

If the order of the Quirks is correct, Subscribed will trigger before Insatiable. If Subscribed gives us a common gimmick, Insatiable will eat it, giving an immediate, permanent stat boost!

And since we're focusing on STR, let's pair it with this Gimmick:

Just be careful if you're playing as Zo, since you'll get dragged along..!!

To mitigate the "minigaminess" of having to aim at the essences, let's use this Mod:

Now it's much easier to hit the bad guys consistently.

This is where we would like to leave this build, but there is a lot of potential here, which we’ll let you discover after the full game release!!

Absolute Explosion Inferno

As a final treat, let's recreate the combo from one of the tweets.

Let's start with a pretty counterintuitive pick – Fragile Quirk:

Seems really bad, but adding another Quirk to the mix turns the effect upside down:

Now when we stomp this die, it'll immediately activate all of the sides!!!!! The foundation has been laid, now let's have some fun with Gimmicks and Mods.

First of all, let's fill die sides with Gimmicks that spawn a whole lot of stuff on the field. For this purpose we have chosen the K-Miles Gimmick, but feel free to experiment and pick something else!

Okay, now let's pick some Mods:

Now thorns spawn all over the place and explode when they expire! And since we want the explosions to be instant, let's also add Skeleton Gimmiko Mod:

Since we have 3 more Mod slots available, let's add three Normal Ass Mushrooms to make our explosions bigger!!Final result: when we stomp this die, it immediately covers the whole arena in massive explosions!!!!

Quirks are pretty cool, right? Use them as a main course or as an appetizer, they’re so damn flexible and can fit so many different playstyles! We can't wait to see you go bonkers with ‘em and come up with shnasty synergies we haven’t even thought about ourselves!!

But for now let's wrap this up. Don't worry, there’s more news on the way, so stay tuned!!!!!!!!

until next time. have a good (jabberwock) night!
