General Practice changes
Hey, doctors!
We have been cooking a huge update for you, the biggest part of which you will never see, because it is completely in the back-end ːsteamsadː Alas, such is game development! But hopefully you will feel it, because the idea was to make the game run smoother for online players.
Apart from the humongous back-end refactor we brought you a little something to make your experience more fun (hopefully!).
Additions and improvements
Two new doctors, just so that the lucky people who have more than 1 friend (can't relate, really) can better see yourself on the level.
New treatments for item printer on Twisk. They change how you play a little bit, so go check it out. Also, please, appreciate the animation for the cough syrup spoon airplane! ːsteammockingː
Key rebinding. We heard you loud and clear! Totally misjudged how important those are. Our plan was always to bring key rebinding closer to launch, but the intensity of your feedback changed our priorities very fast. The people have spoken. The keys will be rebound.
Improved mouse aiming. A little quality of life improvement for keyboard users. Use the mouse to aim while holding syringe gun or throwing something (or someone). We think it's much better, but what do you think?
Added Turkish localization. Some of you, Turkish doctors, reached out and wondered why don't we have it? So here you go, now we do!
Added fixed camera option because literally 1 person asked. But it was easy to add and maybe other people also wanted, but never mentioned. So now you can zoom all the way out, if you please!
A small re-balancing for patient spawning. Mostly to make the diseases feel more balanced.
Lowered ping limit for quick join to mitigate unpleasant experience when you connect to someone too far away and have to suffer with high ping.
Added automatic recognition of controller type to display correct button glyphs. Only works for Xbox or PS controllers for now.
Added visibility for syringes and pills, obscured by a wall. Now you can wall-hack in color!
Fixed some nasty bugs:
the one where some items would turn invisible while carried
the one where your doctor could not interact with anything randomly
the one where you would randomly switch characters with other players
the one where if you de-spawned outside the doctor's room, your hat would be lost forever. Now they return to the rack
the one where tutorial abruptly threw you into the exam. Now you have 5 seconds to revise the material
the one where syringe dispenser was intractable before the round start, but the gun rack was not
the one where items could get stuck under the syringe dispenser
What can still happen, AKA known issues:
if you're hosting an online lobby on a PC that is on the lower end or below spec, your game might crash after a couple of rounds.
if your game window is out of focus (can happen if you get a notification on a different app, for example), your doctor can still move, but will not be able to interact with anything. In this case, click on the game window to bring focus to it.
If your online game crashed, the ghost of the lobby can persist for some time. If you press "Quick join" it might result in your client trying to join the non-existent crashed lobby and time out. This will look like infinite loading and then going back to the main menu. Sorry about that, we will fix it in a future patch!
Sometimes patients can have a white square displayed instead of their disease. We need to investigate this further and we'll fix it in future updates!
So, dear doctors, it is a huge patch, and we're terrified that we broke something. Please, tell us if you experience more bugs and crashes and not less! And also thank you for your understanding: General Practice is in active development and has some wrinkles, which we try to iron out as fast as we can.
Now go do no harm!
