fixedIt’s been a year since Gas Station Story released, and with that comes the final major update. To start, Gas Station Story is now a much better Steam Deck / PC handheld experience! I've tinkered a lot with the backend to make using a controller a more enjoyable way to play, specifically when it comes to navigating the main menu and settings menu. I also fixed some issues with launching the Demo on Linux (and got Pierrot à la Mode , GSS's free spiritual prequel, running on Linux as well with these same updates). I don't think I'll ever be able to get truly "Steam Deck Verified" due to the complexities of updating the controller glyphs within the Game Boy Color ROM, but if this is as close as I can get then I'm content with that for this project. Additionally, there are a few more bug fixes (mostly for those damn boss fights on the last day) and text fixes. I've also released a new trailer for this update that also shows off all the beautiful festival and award laurels I've collected over the past few years!
changedI also wanted to mention that I've made the Art of Gas Station Story available for purchase on Steam and itch ! I originally only had this available on the Patreon page I set up a few months ago, but I've had a really difficult time keeping up with updating that page due to various life events and trying to figure out which of my projects to move forward with. Someday soon I'll definitely come back to it and start offering behind-the-scenes content on my development process, but I don't currently have the bandwidth for that (when I do, I'll make sure to announce it here). Special thanks to my supporters on Kickstarter that helped this Art Book become a reality!
addedOne other small bit of semi-sad news is that I'm sunsetting the official website as development is now complete. Money is pretty tight over here so every cent I can save is huge, and the website isn't funneling much traffic anymore, so it's getting the axe. Soon, though, I'll be putting up a new website for what I'm currently working on...
addedAnd... That's it for now! There are a few bug fixes, and a little bit more content added to Pierrot à la Mode (seriously you have to get that perfect ending, it contains one of the most lore-important scenes I could give you to learn about the Wizard AND the Update Virus, and includes a post-credit scene that will directly tie into my next project), but other than that this was just intended to be a quality-of-life bump. If you’d consider leaving a review of the game on Steam, I’d love to hear what you think. Thanks for reading!

Version 3.0.1 Patch Notes:

General:

  • Demo now runs on Linux

  • Can now navigate main menu and settings menu better with a gamepad

Changes:

  • Mouse no longer hidden when unpaused

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed QBoss Fight 2 hardlocking player if QBoss is hit during movement phase (if this still affects you, a failsafe has been mapped to the Select button)

  • Removed final phase for QBoss Fight 2 (only have to hit it 3 times instead of 4)

  • Changed ladders in Small Adventure so you can just walk up and down with the D-Pad (which fixes the directional arrows blocking the player from moving and glitching out if multiple inputs are pressed at the same time)

  • Fixed broken Sam Animation in certain Finales

  • Removed MORE swears from Edgeless Mode

  • Minor Text Fixes (tm)

Known Issues:

  • Settings doesn't have good visual indicator when using controller

  • Navigating between settings tabs is still kind of hacky
