Steam Workshop Improvements

✏️ Edit Previous Submissions

You can now edit your existing Workshop submissions directly inside GME. Whether you want to update a description, swap out a file, or make minor adjustments, you can do it all from the new Workshop Edit Menu.

We also added a thumbnail preview to the upload process. You can now see exactly how your Workshop thumbnail will look before publishing your creation. No more blind uploads!

General Improvements

  • The “Load Map” menu now builds its list asynchronously, which helps prevent freezing or slowdowns when you have a large number of maps saved.

  • Tooltips now use smarter positioning to avoid overlapping with the top dropdown menus.

  • Messages that appear when unpacking Workshop content are cleaner and no longer stack on top of each other.

  • The bottom hint bar now scales properly for both hosts and clients.

  • Right-click menus are more reliable and will only appear when intended.

  • The frame rate is temporarily locked to 60 FPS to reduce camera lag issues that appear at higher frame rates. This is a short-term solution until a full fix is in place.

  • Removed the “GME_Effects_Shield_9” particle from the library due to a performance issue that caused severe frame drops when it was visible on screen.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that stopped you from clicking on objects or seeing tooltips after closing certain menus.

  • Fixed a bug where a new object could be saved during an auto-save trigger. Objects now only save after being placed in the world.

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when trying to open the Steam Workshop menu while offline.

  • Fixed a problem that allowed Workshop uploads to go through without a title.

  • Fixed a display issue where new maps appeared as if they were created in UE4.

  • Fixed the text that appears when saving a map so it now correctly shows the name of the map you just saved.

  • Fixed a visibility issue where tooltips and hint bar widgets didn’t hide when pressing Ctrl + U.

  • Fixed a bug where creator usernames and avatars were missing when previewing featured Workshop items.

  • Fixed an issue where the password prompt always appeared when joining a session, even if the host didn’t set one.

Thank you all for the continued support and feedback. This update focuses on making GME feel smoother and more dependable while improving the Steam Workshop experience.

Every patch like this helps us tighten things up and prepare for the bigger features still on the way.

Now go build something awesome… and don’t forget to share it on the Workshop while you’re at it. Credit - Thumbnails for this announcement were captured from a map a Discord community member made (muso).
