Updated Game Director Story Demo
The year is almost done - and it's been quite the year for most of us. We're looking forward to a holiday break and hope all of you, your friends, and family are safe & that you have a fantastic holiday season and a better new year.
In our last post we talked about our date move to 2021, and we're excited to share more about that soon. In the meantime, while we're working on the full game, we will continue to make some updates to the demo to get early feedback from you, address any issues you told us about, as well as to keep it as close of a representation of what you can expect in the final game as possible.
In this update we’re adding some bug fixes to items you reported, but most notably we're adding a much asked save/load system, a new game presentation featuring larger characters and a cleaner chat UI, a festive theme, and more! We'd love to hear what you think, particularly on the new UI.
Here is the full list of changes made in this update, which are now available in the demo on Steam.
Save/Load
The game now autosaves at the end of each day.
From the main menu, if you have a save game, the option to 'Continue' will appear.
From the main menu, if you have a save game, pressing 'New Game' will warn you that it will overwrite the previous save. (The full game will have multiple save slots, but for the demo only the one save slot exists)
Updated main game UI
The newer UI is now in the demo.
The new UI places the stakeholder impact icons at the bottom, closer to the the choice buttons, making it easier to preview impacts as you roll over decisions.
The new UI has a larger character image for whoever is speaking, allowing you to see their emotes/frayed states better.
The new UI has a cleaner look and partial transparency, allowing you to see more of the background art.
Additional conversations & a new location added
Some additional conversations that occur in the demo timeframe were added.
A cozy Cafe location has been added. For the moment, one of the demo conversations takes place here. No spoilers though, you'll have to play it to see these.
Other Quality of Life improvements
Just in time for the holidays, the team has decorated the office. The options buttons were moved to accommodate some of the decorations.
The epilogue screens when successfully completing the demo now include images for each of the characters it references.
Additional balancing of some of the hidden tracked values, like 'work-life balance'.
Spread out the timing of when some conversations appeared (reducing the chance you'll miss these).
Bug fixes
Game correctly supports 16x10 aspect ratio on all screens.
Several fixes and tweaks to the ending scene for the E3 event to reflect characters being in/out of office correctly.
Several text edits & typo fixes throughout the demo days story beats.
Fixed a Tala conversation that had a Khepri icon.
Fixed an issue where players could inadvertently select a menu item before the menu came up.
