Geo 2 - Development Update #3

In this update I will be highlighting the basics of the all important drilling in Geo2. Drilling earns you money and loot. Cash is king in Geo 2. Everything from exploring a galaxy to building a new room costs money and you are going to need to earn a lot of it!

Exploration I covered in last weeks update, when exploring you can find a huge variety of alien worlds to drill. There are 5 types of location to drill; Comets, Moons, Planets, Gas Giants and lastly stars. As you can imagine drilling to the core of a comet is easier than reaching the centre of a star!

Locations

Every location is unique. Understanding the stats of a location can really help you.. Depth - How many rows of Tiles (Drillable blocks) to reach the core. Best Depth - The deepest you managed to drill in this location Gravity - Effects the density of tiles which increases as you go deeper. The deeper you go the harder the tiles are. This stat also affects how fast the elemental effects increase. Element - Which elemental effect the location has and how strong it is. Tiles - Which tiles you found in the location (Star values show rarity in location) Items - Which items you found Cores - How many times you have drilled the core (Max 3 per location)

Each and every location in Geo 2 that you find in space is different and every time you drill that location it will generate a different layout. These locations are made up of a set list of Tiles (Drillable blocks) that represent 1km in depth. The list comprises of 4 to 10 preset Tiles of increasing rarity and each with their own unique stats and data (such as health, cash value) Drilling the Tiles will earn you cash and you will also keep the tiles you drilled to use in many other places in the game (Researching new rooms, collection and Fusion, Crew contracts), I will touch on these systems in future updates

Powerups

Drilling these Tiles will damage your drill over time, it takes a skill to identify the weaker tiles and plot a good course downward to the core of the planet. Alongside the Tiles is a large range of other cool things to drill, treasure chests litter the planets and give a nice cash boost alongside a large number of power-up crates. New crates are unlocked as you progress through the game and will be found in the procedurally generated landscapes. Everything you drill and collect is recorded. Not only in your collection of loot but also in relation to the location itself. This means you can check to see what has been found in every location you have drilled but only once you have found it.

Elements & Caves

Some planets have elemental effects. The elements in Geo 2 are Fire, Ice, Acid, Radiation and Dark energy. Your resistances to these elements will be crucial in succeeding on these locations. The deeper you drill the stronger the effect of the element and the more damage you will take over time.

When drilling these locations you may come across little cave areas in the Tiles. These cave areas can be home to some amazing bonuses and power-ups. There are lots and lots of helpful, fun and crazy things to find in these caves. They are randomly selected from pools of increasingly rare events. They can range from a health recovery station that
