The Fleet Battle Optimization Update - Patch v0.1.2

This minor update is also a direct response to player feedback! I heard that the fleet battle missions can cause performance issues on some machines, so I spent some time optimizing them as best as I could.

I heard that the fleet battle missions can cause performance issues on some machines, so I spent some time optimizing them as best as I could. On my Acer Nitro 5, I managed to get a whopping 105 FPS during those updated missions, so I really hope that these changes are good enough to get you all playing. If it is still not enough, let me know and I can try to think of other solutions. For example, I could build in a skip option that triggers if your framerates drop below a certain point.

  • If FPS drops below 45, the bloom effects on the point-defense turret bullets automatically switch off.

  • If FPS drops below 45, the pathfinding cells of all enemy ships, enemy missiles, and allied ships increase.

  • During fleet battles, the bloom effects on the stars are off.

  • Point-defense turret bullets have a more limited range, deleting themselves after a certain distance.

  • All objects in the fleet battles get hidden when off-screen.

  • The number of background ships during fleet battles was significantly reduced.

  • Enemy missiles no longer track their targets every frame. Instead, it is every 0.5 seconds.

Other Updates

  • Fixed crew dialogue to correctly identify shield health and number of enemy ships.

  • Added one more enemy ship to the first fleet battle.

  • Improved enemy behavior in the cruiser escort mission; they now focus their fire on the cruiser. To balance this, I increased the armor of the cruiser so that they can take many more hits.
