V1.09 Beta 1 release (in staging only)

Dear all, The beta for V1.09 has been released. While the main bulk of the work has been done more or less, there're still some parts that we need to do it better. Ie, pinging.

Dear all, The beta for V1.09 has been released. While the main bulk of the work has been done more or less, there're still some parts that we need to do it better. Ie, pinging. In any case, if you could opt into to the staging build, you'll be able to gain access to the new multiplayer implementation.

How to gain access to the beta build?

  1. Library

  2. Right-click on Foresight

  3. Properties

  4. Click on the Betas tab

  5. Enter abcdef123456 into the access code area and press CHECK. Staging build should then be available.

  6. Click on the drop down box, select Staging.

  7. Download should start automatically, if not, verify local copy. If not, restart Steam. * P.S. V1.09 will not affect existing saved games. So... what's in the mix?

Implementations

  1. Multiplayer flow for online gaming has been changed. Now, when you select Play Online, it goes a lobby for available games.

  2. Steam API is fully used in the network layer; that means, you need to have a validated steam account to play online games. Pending Steam accounts aren't allowed. However, you can now play Foresight online games from almost anyway with an internet connection as long as the latency is acceptable.

  3. Improved the process of joining of online games. In the past you'd already seen the multiplayer options appear in a confusing manner; that's no longer the case.

  4. Added a join timeout mechanism which will abort joining of a server if it takes too long.

Notes

It may take some time during the first time you join a server. When that happens and you somehow got timeout, try again if you're absolutely sure that your friend is online. The timeout default is 30 seconds. Do note though, if you join a server with high latency, you may not enjoy the game.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a nasty bug on second games where your friends may usurp your place due to a bug. - Fixed another bug where you were a client and now trying to be a server but you can't choose a map. - Fixed a bug where the map was chosen, you are happy with it but no per-player items appear (ie, your name, your faction, color, group etc)

What's not done?

  1. Ping measurements aren't done yet. You can't measure the ping between yourself and the servers in the lobby but the lobbies are sorted by distance anyway.

  2. LAN game regression testing not done; because it uses a more direct non-steam ID required API, we'll still need to test it. But we're excited to make the online component available to you first!

What's next?

Throughout the course of this week, we'll be improving the beta and the tentative launch date for V1.09 is on Saturday, 6th May 2016. 2330 Singapore Time.

Conclusion

There'll be a few surprises coming your way in V1.09. We're done with the baseline yes, but that doesn't mean we're DONE with the game itself just yet. Thanks again for your support once again! Regards, Jeremy
