Foresight changes
Dear all, V1.08b-TRIAL has been released! We fixed the hanging issue but the fix we made was rather unusual for us. Since this is still in BETA mode, we'll take the next 3 weeks to investigate the issue as a whole.
New Implementations
Implemented new AI system with 5 sub-systems that government the actions of the AI in single battles. Some of the sub-systems can be used for campaign mission but they're not deployed yet - pending testing and trials for each individual mission to see the side effects. - Improved the network device to reduce or eliminate sudden disconnections in-game. Again, we'll need more testing to confirm this. - The new revamped AI has 3 difficulty levels in which you can choose before starting a battle. They do NOT fire at anything that is red in your base. This may not be the case while enroute. - AI settings are saved now. That means whatever you've set - the AI difficulty and faction are now persisted even as you change maps; saving you the trouble of redoing the same thing over and over again.
Adjustments
Network version has been adjusted. V1.08b-TRIAL and versions onwards will NOT be compatible with V1.08a-4 and before. You won't be able to join games hosted in V1.08b-TRIAL if you're at V1.08a-4. - Saved games in V1.08b-TRIAL will NOT WORK with V1.08a-4. Though older saved games are always backward compatible with new game version. Be warned if you want to try the trial version. * For safety reasons, do not save any games if you wish to return to V1.08a-4. Otherwise it's ok to remain till the full release. - Noticed that in V1.08a-4, some fighters do not fire even when in extremely close range to their capital ship targets. This has since been fixed; fighter engagement range has been lengthened to account for their fast approach speeds. - Adjusted all the materials of all ships based on their faction-based diffuse and specular levels. This is done in preparation for V1.09. (Something big's coming up)
Bug Fixes
Fixed a nasty hanging bug in V1.08a-4 where opening the game a second time in succession will cause the game to hang at the KISS Logo part. The fix has fixed the symptoms but we still do not understand the root cause yet. - Fixed a hanging bug where fleet requests from fleet commanders can hang the game. - Fixed a bug where ships dying while going through the wormhole can lead to a crash. - Fixed a bug where the fleet was still setting its flagship. This could be due to the fleet commander trying to escape or upgrade to a better flagship. During this time, the fleet will have NO flagship. Under such specific circumstances, the game will crash when you try to give a specific flight path in the sector map. - Fixed a bug where resource patches greater than 1024 causes the game to crash while loading. This affects only certain major maps - especially single battle [Dominion] 8 players. - Fixed a bug where the player's ship can be assigned to the fleet via the SHIFT+F1-F5 shortcuts. The player's ship can never be assigned to any fleets. - Fixed a bug where your allies do not share intelligence with you. By right, they already do share exploration intelligence. For some reasons they do not share common enemy information with you. This has since been fixed. The keyword is COMMON ENEMY. If your allies' enemy is your ally (in a complicated relationship), then intelligence isn't shared.
Known issues not resolved yet
Sometimes while the sector map is opened, the enemy might reveal its path albeit temporarily, to you. This is still rather sproadic and therefore harder to catch. But we'll definitely resolve it by the full release.
Conclusion
This patch demonstrates our resolve to fulfill our promises to our players. By revamping the AI, the single battle skirmishes are now far more fun and challenging compared to its initial release. We'll continue to work hard to "harden" the revamp so that it becomes more stable and calibered while fixing other bugs. The game has definitely became more stable. A word of caution - saved games in V1.08b-TRIAL is not compatible with V1.08a-4. This means, if you saved a game in the trials and revert to V1.08a-4, the main version will NOT be able to open the game. It'll crash. However, we still encourage you to try V1.08b-TRIAL on its own without saving. You'll be able to see the vast changes made to the AI. In 3 weeks' time, we'll move V1.08b-TRIAL into V1.08b proper. The main build will then be upgraded and compatibility issues will disappear after that. We hope you'll enjoy the trial patch and thanks for your continued support! We look forward to hearing more from you! Regards, Jeremy
