Fleetbreakers changes
This week’s story spotlight dives into the origins of the Beacon. Long before Fleetbreakers begins, the Beacon was supposed to be the start of a whole new era. After the discovery of the first warp artifact, the Cobalt Expedition built it as the first in a planned line of massive motherships, expecting to find more artifacts scattered across the galaxy. That dream didn’t pan out because humanity never found another one, but the Beacon still became the ship that opened humanity to the stars. With the warp artifact mounted at its core, it jumped from system to system, founding colonies, meeting new species, and pushing farther than any human imagined possible.

As the Beacon kept exploring, it eventually pushed too far. Out on the edge of mapped space, the crew encountered the Voltari, an ancient, corruptive species that had already consumed entire civilizations. Whether the Beacon awakened them or simply stumbled into their hunting grounds, the result was the same: the Voltari turned their attention towards us. The Beacon, once a discovery vessels suddenly became the only rapid‑response defense, warping between threatened systems and trying to slow the spread of corruption.

The Voltari didn’t stop. They didn’t negotiate. They didn’t retreat. Every jump brought worse news. Every colony fell faster than the last. And as the Beacon fought to hold the line, the war crept closer and closer to home. The crew faced impossible choices, and the ship’s mission shifted from exploration to survival as humanity’s frontiers collapsed. Then, one day, the Beacon vanished.

That’s the state of the galaxy when Fleetbreakers begins: a once‑hopeful era of exploration replaced by a desperate fight against an enemy that has already devoured entire species. The Beacon is gone, the warp artifact along with it, and humanity’s only hope now rests with a new Captain, a new crew, and a new mothership stepping into the role the Beacon once filled.

Everything that happens next unfolds inside the game, but this is the history that shaped the world you’re about to jump into.
