What changed
- Gameplay
- Balance
The Fight for Olympus Demo (version 0.131) has been made more accessible to new players in multiple ways. 1. Starter deck
The initial version threw you into a draft of 7 cards (1 rare, 2 uncommons, 4 commons) while also handing out 7 random cards. Now with a New Game you can choose. Do you want to start with a (double) draft to get 2 rares, 4 uncommons and 8 commons? Or do you want the Starter Deck with 14 commons from which you can choose the cards for you deck with a minimum of 10. Beginning players should not be confronted with the mechanics just yet so the early draft was not ideal. Steam post image
Steam post image......................................................................................................................................................................................................... The cards in the Starter Deck require only a minimum of understanding of the game. It also has a couple of nice combo's to enjoy. For example, Known Weakness can make any enemy unit vulnerable to one of your other Damage Sorceries like Arrow of Artemis and Flame Hand. The deck only has smaller units so cards like Stone Armor can help your units survive for longer if you're unable to deal with larger threats. Recall can work well with Minerva Owl or Amazon Archer. Or with the Nemian Lion which is particularly good when having played multiple other Wildlife cards first. Amazon Archer is also very nice with Hermes' boots (originally called Hermes' feet).
Optional pause between phases What was confusing for some was the play order, as it was automatically executed without pauses or warnings:
- player draws/plays/move
- enemy attacks
- enemy draws/plays
- player attacks Now you get an optional pause after each phase.
Reducing hand size problems
Besides some fixes to layout issues plus some cards and animations you may notice from the previous screenshot there is a new visible change to how cards are held in hand. The larger the hand, the more problems you could have with grabbing cards to play. The cards are now positioned differently next to each other at a varying height so that each card next to another card can be more easily grabbed from either the top or the bottom of it.
