Faye Falling changes
Happy New Year!!
This was a huge year for me. I released four big updates for Faye Falling, six for Dead Detention Rescribbled, and even launched Faye Falling on Switch and PlayStation! In July I also received a grant from Screen Australia to support the development of my upcoming action RPG Spin Spirits!
But 2026 will be bigger: here's what's coming!
Faye Falling 1.5
A final major update will release for Faye Falling around the middle of the year. This will focus entirely on further polishing the game. I'll also be writing a retrospective around the time of the update going over its release: what I learned, what I did right and wrong, and more.
Her Crown of Blood
In January I'll be announcing a third, and final, Undertale-style RPG called "Her Crown of Blood." In it, you play as a mother exploring Hell to find her sinful daughter. This game is another standalone story, but features returning characters from both View From Below and Faye Falling.
A demo will release in April featuring the first 20 minutes of the game.
The full game will release in Q4.
Like Papercuts
In Q3 I'll be announcing a second paper-y visual novel called "Like Papercuts." This takes the structure of Dead Detention Rescribbled and really refines it--but this time around with a much more emotional, sincere story. It's about a thirteen-year-old girl called Clara, and her dog Bella, being haunted on New Years Eve...
A demo will release in Q4.
Spin Spirits
- This is the big onean action RPG inspired by Beyblades, Pokemon and Stardew Valley. I finished a vertical slice of the first hour at the end of November, and I'm currently polishing it up for a demo release ASAP. The demo will initially release as a beta on itch.io, and after feedback is addressed, a full demo will release on Steam.
I'll be pitching the full game to major indie game studios around June--so I'm really hopeful this will be my first big, commercial success! It's much more pop than my other niche things, but it still has all my usual hallmarks and themes--just presented in a more approachable way. I've never worked on anything as hard as I've worked on this...
View From Below 2.0
Another thing I've been quietly hacking away at is a 2.0 update for View From Below--to finally fix some lingering issues. You can check out the beta branch to see me slowly work on that! I don't know if the full update will release in 2026, it can't be my focus, but I'll definitely keep chipping away at it. (It'll feature a full original soundtrack, backported Faye Falling updates and more! Eventually!)
My games have sold thousands of copies now, and I really don't take any of it for granted. It means a lot! Please make sure to leave a review on any if you haven't yet--it really helps with Steam's algorithm! (There's so much spam and AI stuff published on Steam now, it's getting really hard to be noticed T_T)
I'm really excited about where I am now--I just wish I was here about a decade ago T_T I had so many troubles in my teens and early twenties, and they completely threw me off course for a minute there--but I'm back on track now. I have so much to say and make and show the world. I hope I get to. I think I will.
Best,
Jack
