Eyes of Hellfire changes
Eyes of Hellfire has gotten another revamp, and this time we’re aiming it at duos. We wanted to give you something exciting for December’s festive season.
We have a slew of marvellous things to share with you in our Terror for Two Update. So without further ado, let’s get you up to speed.
Enhancements for Two Players
Eyes of Hellfire can be played with up to 5 players; however, we’ve noticed that many of you prefer to just play with one other friend. For that, we wanted to make some tweaks to make your gameplay much smoother for you and your friend, and so we did! This is what you’ll now experience in two-player mode:
Uncertain Eyes presence: In most 2-player games, neither player will have the Eyes of Hellfire curse, though it will show up on occasion
More durable: Each character gets a +2 Health buff
Less monsters to deal with: Events now spawn one monster instead of two
- No time to voteVote events are removed
- No Curse of the OutsiderVote-related curse removed
The Thorn Fresco now scales by player count and has been balanced for two players
Special Mention: More atmosphere
What better way to showcase the gothic horror vibe than with candelabras! You could already gain candelabras in-game, but we wanted them to pop.
BEHOLD: Players, when gaining candelabras, are now armed with them! You'll want to see how Patrick carries his.
Quality of Life Updates
Along with these changes, we’ve also focused on Quality of Life features for the game, based in large part on your feedback. Here’s what we’ve worked on:
Clearer Curses Intro
Curses! We love them, but we agree that it wasn’t so clear what information should be hidden from other players. So, we decided to do a revamp! At the beginning of the game, the Curses intro has been changed to explain to players what exactly is happening and what should be kept secret.
Note that your mics are switched off at this point so if you do happen to be the Eyes of Hellfire, no one will hear you gasp! Your secret is safe with the Host.

Note: You'll see the mute symbol on screen in the opening cutscene to indicate that mics are off. The symbol will appear on screen again after the curses intro to indicate that mics are live.
Clearer Curse Results
Not only that but at the end of the game, when it’s time to reveal the curses, we’ve made it far more obvious what’s actually happening on screen!
“Take the hit!”
Following your feedback, we’ve changed our combat UI! It now includes a button that will allow players to take the hit from an enemy straightaway instead of waiting for their windup.
This is particularly useful when you’ve run out of cards and vigour and are waiting for the enemy to hit you, or when you see that the rest of your friends have ended their turn, and you want to speed up the combat.
“How to” Control page
Still learning the intricacies of the game? Can’t remember the shortcuts? We got you. We have a new “how-to” reference in-game that you can toggle on and off by clicking the ? symbol on the top right corner of the UI.
This is also useful if you skipped the tutorial (though we still recommend you go play it since it only takes five minutes).
What did they say? Introducing Subtitles
We now have subtitles displayed over characters’ heads as speech bubbles when they say something. You can toggle this on/off by going into your settings. We have also added missing subtitles to cutscenes!

A stamp for COMPLETED quests in the journal
Wondering if what you just did progressed you further? Do you need to revisit something? Wonder no more. Now, when you’ve completed a key task, it will be marked off in the journal, even if another player completed the last step.
Even MORE cards
Think you know every card in the deck? Not anymore! We’ve added a slew of new cards to the reward pools when trading in seals so that you’ll be able to change up your playstyle even more. Trust us, you will definitely want to try out the grenade (just mind your friends, ok?).

Note: We have also taken the time to rebalance other cards so their values make more sense when playing.
Pop-ups for gaining relics
Relics are rare items that you can gain in-game, and we thought they deserved a bit more fanfare. When you gain a relic, it will now display on screen with said fanfare provided by our sound designer.
Seals and other quest items will now also work this way (with a little less fanfare), and we’ve also doubled the time that floater text hangs around so you have time to digest what’s going on.
Vote enhancements
Trying to pull the wool over someone’s eyes? Get ready to defend your position! Votes are now public! When votes come around in the Gathering, everyone, as usual, can vote for whoever they wish, but the results will be public, and people will see exactly how votes were cast.
We’ve also resolved issues when there’s a tie between players.
Shield effect will not expire at the end of turn
You have rightly pointed out that using your shield should not expire unless you’re hit. We agree, and so when you gain a shield, it will only expire next time you’re hit.
There’s more Fight in you
Starting cards have had their Fight power increased. Here’s the nitty-gritty:
Brute Force: 2 Fight -> Fight 2 (+2 if alone in the section)
Aggressive Instincts: Fight 1, Killing an entity or player with this card, adds a permanent +1 Fight to this card -> Fight 2, Killing an entity or player with this card, adds a permanent +1 Fight to this card
===========================================
Phew. And that's it.
Thank you all for your continued support for Eyes of Hellfire. We’ve loved connecting with you all and hearing your feedback.
You can reach out to us on Discord, and if you’ve liked what you’ve played so far, please do leave us a positive review on Steam; it really helps.
