Welcome to Everlast: Undying Tale! We’ve made over one-thousand (yes, thats a 1 with 3 zeros) changes to our game since the last playtest! Our team is small but mighty, and we can’t wait to hop in and show you what’s in store.

  • 🏰Three dungeons to explore

  • 🔨14 skills to level

  • 🗺️9 Zones to develop into thriving areas

Keep reading below to deep dive into all the new features you can expect (and how to get to them), and a list of our known issues and bugs.

Quests

As soon as you begin your second life as a Pyrrhic, you’ll immediately be face-to-face with a mysterious man -- following along his quest will get you started and introduced to the world of Everlast.

⚠️ Note: Currently, undiscovered quests do not have indicators on the map, or with the relevant NPCs. When you’ve accepted a quest, the quest markers will be purple on your minimap and main world map. To help ease this growing pain, we’ve cheekily listed all our current quests below, and how to get them started.

Work for Hire 🐔

  • Nothing like being a helping hand for some good, old-fashioned farm work! Barnus at the farm directly south of Kal Crossing has a few errands he needs help with -- and these quests will help familiarize you with the town (and its people…)

A Very Important Birthday 🎂

  • The castle kitchens are ablaze and Tartiana could use your help -- The King’s birthday is soon, and with any great party comes lots… and lots.. of food. Grab your chef hat, it’s time to get cooking!

One man’s trash… 🗑️

  • Comb through the town long enough, and even piles of junk start looking interesting. Or wait, maybe it’s more than that?

You may find other quests in the game – though these are also still WIP, and may not perform as we’d like – but you can still pick them up and peek behind the curtain.

Dungeons

This playtest boasts 3 playable dungeons - Gather your friends, forge some armor, and hop right in. What’s the worst that could happen? Death? Eh, you’ll get better.

⚠️ Note: Although the dungeons are entirely playable, we still have some rough edges around them. Most notably:

  • Combat with enemies may be a little “off”.

  • We currently have no party system -- however, you can still enter a dungeon with your friends -- and you might see some other people exploring, too!

The Mines ⛏️

  • If you’re following along our first questline, you’ll naturally come to this dungeon as part of this quest. This laid-back place is an area for you to collect resources and enjoy the ambiance!

The Abyss 🕳️

  • Like its namesake, the Abyss can be accessed by the large, mysterious hole in the ground. Take a leap of faith, and test your mettle against the monsters and baddies here! Or, for those who might be a little squeamish about jumping into bottomless pits, you can find another entrance in the mines to the north.

Secret Tunnel 🎸

  • Hidden underneath the Baddingers, players might find a secret network of long-abandoned tunnels. You never know what lurks in the dark!

    • ⚠️ Note: This dungeon is still a WIP-- All the assets are there, and the ambiance definitely is, but enemies may not behave as expected!

Skills

We currently have 17 skills that all aspiring adventurers can level! However, due to our rough edges, only 14 currently function as expected, and some of them may not be entirely intuitive to find out how to begin leveling them. We’ve listed them below, along with some tips!

⚠️Note: While most of our skills are leveled based on individual contribution (such as how many times you’ve hit an enemy with your sword), loot drops are currently granted only to the player who initiated the battle. Thankfully, players can drop items from their inventory for other players, or if an item isn’t looted in 60 seconds, it will become visible to other players.

Your Curse 🩻

While not explicitly a skill you can level, curse-management can help (or harm) you depending on your situation -- Your curse meter is the circular red meter next to your stamina and health bars! You can fill this up and negate the effects of your curse by consuming “ichor” -- a special organ found in all living creatures.

Combat-Centric Skills

For this playtest, we especially would love feedback on our combat -- how it feels as it currently exists, and features you’d wish for in our coming tests!

Dexterity & Strength ⚔️

For Melee combat, you have a few options: Dexterity and Strength -- different weapons scale off these two core stats! They’re leveled when you land a hit on an enemy with that respective weapon -- so a poke and run strategy could pay off.. If you’re patient, that is. Currently, our weapons that are influenced by Dex are: Swords, Axes, Spears; And for Strength we have: Swords, Maces, Pickaxes, and Greatswords.

Defense 🛡️

This skill is leveled by wearing armor or using a shield - the amount of experience gained is dependent on how much damage your armor mitigates - so make sure you’re geared up before running up against those big nasties.

  • ⚠️NOTE: Currently, this skill cannot be leveled correctly.

Vitality 💖

Somewhat related to cooking (found below) your vitality skill increases your HP -- and this skill is leveled by eating food and healing from injuries. Right now, the best (and maybe only) way to heal from your injuries is through food – scroll down to learn how to cook up a storm.

Occultism 🧿

Love magic? Love to be undead? Try Occultism today! Occultism is a versatile skill that can debuff your foes and create openings for those finishing shots-- If you’re willing to make the sacrifices needed to level it. Occultism doesn’t require any spell components, but it does require charge (the circular meter next to your health and stamina bars) -- which is gained by consuming ichor. Or, if you don’t feel the need to satisfy your curse, you can always offer your ichor up to the altar at the temple -- the gods look more favorably on those willing to share.

Ranged & Precision 🎯

These skills, such as… well, the Ranged skill and the precision skill are both still pretty rough around the edges -- we expect these to be much more polished for our next playtest, so for now? Enjoy at your own risk!

Sorcery 🔥

Don’t like dirtying your hands? Magic could be the answer for you! Sorcery requires materials to cast spells, which you need to have on your person to cast. That being said, Sorcery in combat is still a work-in-progress for this playtest, so while you can play around with some flashy spells, they miiiight not work as intended.

Crafting and Gathering

Arcana ✨

This is where your non-combat related magic lives. Craft potions or cast spells to help make your life a little bit easier when you dive into the Abyss to take on a hoard of Thrunks! To begin leveling this skill, you will need to craft potions before you can cast spells -- Check out the Arcanist’s Tower to find a few unused workbenches to get brewing.

Cooking 🍳

Food is your gateway to health in Everlast -- an army crawls on its stomach, after all! (Even undead ones). Meat, greens, and more can be used to craft up tasty meals at a campfire -- make sure you have a few snacks at all times to heal yourself up in a pinch!

Survival 🧝

Look, not all of us can pull off plate armor - some of us just want to rock a leather chestpiece. And the survival skill is how you can accomplish this goal -- Use survival crafting tables to leatherwork, and you can use wood to craft even more items.

Blacksmithing 🔨

Look, not all of us can pull off leather armor. For those looking to turtle up and tank, blacksmithing is your way to go! Grab your metals and smelt them, then craft them to create beautiful (and strong) suits of armor -- to protect you and your friends!

Artisan 🧵

This skill umbrellas many of our finer-crafting skills. Which, of course, comes with the opportunities for monetary rewards. The artisan skill allows you to chisel gemstones at a workstation (or if you purchase a chisel from the General Store, anywhere you please!), create jewelry, and weave thread at the weaver’s mill.

Fishing 🎣

Chickens and cows aren’t the only sources of meat -- grab a fishing net next to sir Mack Errol and try your luck in the blue waters of Kal Crossing!

Mining 🪨

It’s very likely that this will be the first skill you encounter when joining Everlast for the first time -- Our old buddy Teo will direct you right to the mines to get your pickaxe and get going. Mining can net you precious minerals used for crafting, but also rare gemstones used for jewelry.

Woodcutting 🌳

Right near the poplar grove you’ll find an axe buried in the stump of a tree. And you know what they say.. It’s Free Axe! You can now go forth and use this axe to devastate the fragile ecosystem -- and gain valuable crafting materials.

Forging 🌻

You can also pick up flowers and herbs. With your hands.

World

The world isn’t all big, suspicious holes in the ground and swamps filled with zombies -- Everlast also has 9 zones known as Desolate Zones, areas that could use your contribution of materials and help to improve the land.

⚠️ Note: For this playtest, Desolate Zones do not give out rewards for completion. But you of course want to help out of the goodness of your heart… right?

Tips & Tricks

  • Click in mousewheel to lock on to your targets

  • Save your crafting for when you reach town - some foraged items stack, while their crafted counterparts do not.

  • Worried about dying? Don’t be! Dying will send you to your good friend Death, who will give you 3 items from your inventory that were dropped upon dying -- for free! .. However, if you want more items that you’d dropped, you better be ready to pay the price. In gold.

  • Water is spicy - make sure you don’t stay in too long or you could find yourself on a date with Death.

  • Named NPCs and villagers can’t be fought… but if you happen to see a guard outside the town gates and feel so inclined to start a fight… Just make sure you’re geared up enough to survive.

Known Issues & Bugs 🐛

  • When leaving Death’s domain or spawning into a new map you may go to a black screen while still being able to hear music and sound effects. Relogging solves this issue.

  • Related to the above, you may see “Teleport Timeout” with the same behavior. Relogging solves this issue.

  • If you do decide to fight a guard, you may notice they have the wrong sound effect. They sound a little… demonic.

  • Currently there is no way to put away your weapon or tool - watch where you swing that thing!

  • Levers that should be functional do not function.

  • Desolate zones don’t have functional rewards.

  • Some gatherables in an area, such as herbs and flowers, can be gathered but do not despawn - and can be interacted with again without giving a reward.

  • Enemies currently don’t have a danger level displayed - if you feel outmatched, run!

  • Character creator: Clothing/skin, etc.

  • Character creator: Facial features that you’ve chosen may not properly save once spawning into the world.

  • Character creator: Mouth toggle affects the jaw sliders.

  • Quest markers for quests not yet discovered or started are not on the map or above NPCs.

  • Quest markers are in front of an NPC to speak to, not on top of them.

  • When crafting, you may see “Failed to Complete” but will still receive the item you were crafting.

  • Sometimes when talking to an NPC you go into a dark void. Ending the dialogue will bring you back to your plane.

  • The Tendie Lender will keep moving and walking when speaking with her. (She’s just trying to get her steps in, let her be.)

  • Clothes on players and NPCs can clip through skin or bodies, or may make your wrists disappear.

  • (CURRENTLY - COULD CHANGE TOMORROW) No fishingpole or net next to mack errol

  • Many items don’t stack.

  • Apples have 2 eat prompts - one of them doesn’t work.

  • It’s recommended to not use VSync due to performance issues.

  • If you’re experiencing performance issues, it’s recommended to toggle off the “Render Foliage via GPU” box found in settings.

  • Next to Sedna Trappe there is an invisible pool of water – it’s still spicy, just invisible. Watch out!

  • Other player’s animations may seem choppy or glitchy.

  • Equipping or unequipping a hat can cause hair physics to break - relogging fixes the issue.

  • Sometimes when interacting with Burley the Fist to fight him, teleporting to the combat zone registers as the quest failing, and Burley disappears.

  • The experience gain on Defense is not levelling properly.
