Escape With Friends changes
How's the project going? New mini-games, Chapter 1 testing, hint system and music update — I'm covering all of that in this second Trihebdo update. Remember to Wishlist (please)!
Asset of the moment
We kick things off with a second piece of out of context scenery.
Difficulty and hints
As announced in the previous update, full playtesting of the first chapter should begin by the end of the month. However, this week I ran the first presentation of the Chapter 1, and the first complete playtest should happen in the coming days.
These tests have already surfaced a few bugs and, more importantly, helped me tune the difficulty. Having chosen to make a game without an "extra-diegetic" hint system, I need to make sure that enough snippets of information can be found throughout the world for everyone to reach the end of the adventure. Parallel puzzles must therefore allow players to gather clues from one another, helping lost groups get unstuck.
Rough progress summary:
Assets: 95%
Story: 100%
Development: 80%
Music
Even if I try to handle as much of the project as possible in absolute solo mode — including areas where my lack of talent should really alarm me (drawing) — I am simply unable to produce a single worthwhile piece of music. So I've decided to bring someone on board for this (alongside some royalty-free or CC0 tracks, thank you Internet!). It's coming together rather nicely… I'll tell you more very soon…
NextFest Change
Following the game's delay to March 11, 2027, I had initially decided to keep the June 2026 NextFest slot. However, I've decided to be a savvy marketing strategist and follow the advice I've seen online 🐑🧠📈. The 9-month gap between the demo and the game would have caused you to lose interest, overstimulated consumers that you are. So it'll be the October one instead.
Why not February 2027? Well, the demo has been ready for several months now, and even though it benefits from improvements made to the rest of the adventure, I am (very) eager to get feedback.
See you in three weeks,
Le DoubleSept
