Eslyn Ambertail, the Companion

This is already our third Dev Log. In this Dev Log, we'd like to introduce Eslyn Ambertail — the first Companion to walk alongside you on your journey.

The First Companion by Your Side

We didn't want your journey to be a lonely one.

We wanted you to have a companion by your side at all times — someone who does more than simply help you in battle, but grows closer to you as you overcome hardship together.

That thinking led us to create the Companion system.

The first Companion, Eslyn Ambertail, appears in Goldenhaven and walks alongside you from the very beginning of your journey. We designed her with the hope that she becomes someone you can truly care for and rely on.

Two Faces, One Resolve

You first meet Eslyn at the succession ceremony in Goldenhaven, where she appears in a golden-orange dress befitting a noblewoman.

Her ceremonial attire features a bodice that reveals her collarbone and shoulders, paired with a chiffon skirt — a look meant to balance glamour and elegance.

That hidden side is revealed the moment Bella's assault begins.

Eslyn casts off her dress, changes into the combat attire hidden underneath, and transforms into a warrior without hesitation. A tight-fitting romper paired with lace-up long boots — a look that prioritizes agility and practicality over ornament. Through this form, we sought to capture Eslyn's true nature — someone always ready to step onto the battlefield.

Her grace at the succession ceremony, her strength on the battlefield — both sides are part of who Eslyn truly is.

Eslyn's Combat Design

Eslyn wields both a hand crossbow and a rapier, switching between them effortlessly as the situation demands.

The crossbow represents the survival instincts she sharpened to endure a brutal world. The rapier carries the only noble sword technique left to her fallen house, along with her unwavering resolve to carry her family name to the very end.

Steam post image In battle, Eslyn primarily uses her hand crossbow's range to provide steady support from a distance. But when certain conditions are met, she draws the rapier hidden inside her staff and unleashes a barrage of lethal close-range strikes — revealing the fierce, unpredictable side beneath the calm.

Coordination and Teamwork

What matters most in fighting alongside Eslyn is coordination and teamwork. We wanted you to feel a real sense of accomplishment as you sync up with your Companion.

To support this, we designed the Bloodline Skill meter — which fuels your ultimate attack — to charge whenever you land a successful coordinated attack with Eslyn. Beyond the distinct visual effects that trigger when you sync up with your Companion, you'll also charge your game-changing Bloodline Skills far faster.

Passive Skills

The passive skills that unlock as she grows add even more depth to Eslyn's combat capabilities. These passives introduce a range of effects that shift the flow of battle — activating new attack skills, increasing your mobility, and reducing enemy defense, among others.

Through these effects, you'll feel firsthand how fighting in sync with Eslyn can shift the battlefield decisively in your favor.

A Bond That Grows

Your relationship with Eslyn won't be smooth from the start.

She follows you, but she hasn't fully opened up. Only as you weather hardships together and slowly build trust does she begin to change. As your bond deepens, you'll notice her polite but distant tone soften little by little — and catch her growing flustered when you praise her.

We believe the experience of shaping change through the bonds you build with your Companions is one of the core joys Embers of the Uncrowned has to offer.
